Unfortunately for you, they already have a 3-class longhaul 772ER with New C, PY and Y. They often take ages to update seatmaps on changed equipment, so it's most likely the 772ER will be used.
I think these are the ones use on NRT-SFO for a short while before it switch to 77W, there are two of them, JA715A and JA716A. They are also deliverd to NH with C, PY, and Y, not those reconfigure from F, C and Y. This two birds had been using on NRT-PVG currently.
Though they will be dropping F and switching to a 772 there will be more premium economy seating available (36 vs 24 I believe). The only way you will seat in an F seat booked as C is if the 772 is in for service and they use a 4 class 773 in the meantime.
Not so surprising seeing as though goverment employees are required to fly a US carrier, and even NH plated as US they don't fly F, which is fine with my tax dollars.
Sweet -- thanks for the update. I was worried because seatguru gives conflicting information; two places say that the 777-200 has "recliner" seats (in the comparison chart, or roll over the "More Info" hyperlink on the seat map page), but they're also listed as "lie-flat" on the seat map page.
Hmmm ... maybe I'm just being too anal about this. Looking forward to the trip!
Shock horror! I was just on the ANA site looking to book paid F IAD-NRT-IAD for Sept/Oct and I didn't see it available past 7/1. I came on here to verify... Mon dieu. I will miss the 77W.

Yes, very disappointing.
Try ex ORD or JFK if you want to stay on ANA. I realize it is not as convenvenient as the non-stop flight.
When I talked with the plat service desk, I mentioned the change, and they said they think it is a temporary swap of aircraft because of preparations to start flying the 787 on this route, and that the use of the 772 is just a fill-in between moving the 77W to another route and the arrival of the 787. So, supposedly, F should return to this route, but we won't have it as an option....for the moment. Anybody else heard anything along these lines?

I doubt it, the F load on this route has historically been low. It's one of the easiest - if not the easiest route to obtain ANA F awards. Too bad it's coming to an end but I don't think many people and businesses can afford to pay the F fares anyway right now.

I dunno, ORD has been just as easy to obtain reward seats in F. The whole plane flies with pretty low loads, but it's a prestige route for them (NH 1...), a couple years back I attended a reception to celebrate 20 years of service on the route. They could well put an early 787 on the route if only to highlight to Washington that they buy Boeing. But agree, killing F on the route probably makes sense sad as it is for me, having flown it a few times..

It would make sense fiscally for them to drop F service, especially given the lack of people I ever see up there, but I still think the 787 is a definite possibility. Looking at the chart for the aircraft changes, it says its a "temporary for FY09" swap, and with them expecting arrival of the 787 soon, plus looking at what has been moved where, I think its a definite possibility.
Perhaps just due to Obon holiday period, but I just booked a Biz seat (D) IAD-NRT vv in early August for under USD 4k all in. Kind of a bargain on this route!
