NH NRT-JFK Seat Assignment in C

Im flying NH NRT-JFK as part of a SQ ticket from SIN in C in January.
Im trying to get my seat assigned for the NRT-JFK segment and both SQ and NH have told me they cannot assign my seat.

SQ says its a SQ codeshare operated by NH so you have to contact NH for seat assignment.
NH says its an SQ codeshare ticket so SQ needs to send the seat request to NH because it is under SQ's control.

There are two of us flying and we would like to sit together , I find it strange that Im not able to get a seat assigned when flying in paid C .
Any suggestions ?

When you say SQ says or NH says are you referring to their websites or did you actually speak with someone?

Seems like NH should be able to give you a seat. When I book a United award on NH I was told by UA that in order to get seat assignments I had to call NH. I called them and they had to find my NH record locator which was different from my UA record locator but they were able to do it and assign my seats on all flights.

When it's a codeshare, it's quite complicated. Often, the traveller ends up being caught in the gap between the operating carrier and the ticketing carrier, because the two respective reservations systems (and/or the arrangement of the codeshare) means that precisely the scenario above happens - neither carrier can/wants to do it for you.

Your best hope is probably to just ask NH for the NH PNR and try the online seat selection tool. Or just ask SQ to just try to bring up a seatmap on their system - it may well be that SQ really can't bring up the seatmap. And from past experience, it's also possible that NH are under explicit instructions not to touch PNRs that originate from SQ, not even to assign seats...

I spoke to someone from both airlines .

I will try to get the NH PNR and see if I could assign the seat online.

Calling works

I was able to do this yesterday. Booked award on NH, SQ and UA via AC.
Called each airline and said I had booked with AC and would like to assign seats for the segment on that carrier. All I needed to give them were the dates and routes of travel, and my name. All 3 carriers were able to find their record locator and assign my seats. (I made sure to get the PNR from them and promptly checked each airlines website to make sure they had actually assigned those seats to me).

My problem was the NH NRT-JFK was ticketed as an SQ codeshare flight.
SQ finally sent a message to NH and apparently I have been given a seat.
They would not give me the PNR for NH , but at this point I do not care .

Basically what happens when SQ issues a ticket on NH as a codeshare, it's an SQ ticket number, so NH won't touch it. Similar as if you were flying EWR-SIN on SQ and called NH for a seat assignment, not their ticket, they won't touch it.
