ANA Master FAQ

Hello All...

I’d like to thank Q Shoe Guy for suggesting this Sticky/FAQ for the ANA forum. I hope that the flow of messages doesn’t slow to a crawl because all the information about AMC is in the first post! Don’t forget to check out the“Seatmaps”.
The information below is provided to the best of the contributors ability and we cannot guarantee its 100% accuracy. -Schoflyer

ANA Mileage Accrual
Essentially, you earn 1 mile for each Platinum Point that you accrue (see below) + one mile for actual flight miles multiplied by your Elite Bonus level. For more details see below.
http://www.anaskyweb.com/us/e/amc/guide/ft_index.html
As per the ANA USA Platinum Desk on 9/3/04:
Class of Service Bonus:
150%=F, A
125%=C,D,Z, and sometimes J
100%=Y
70%=B, H, K, L, Q, S, W also M’s from USA and G’s from Japan
50%=G’s from USA and M, T from Japan
This thread details mileage accrual from Singapore. It is pretty much in line with above until you get down to the bottom of the barrel stuff. Their may be differences between the orign countries or the information may be slightly off.
From SIN AMC on 9/12/2004 Earning miles on various Y booking class on ANA to AMC
Mileage Accrual on Star Alliance Partners By Fare Class-Former link was no valid. Any ideas?

Domestic Related (Courtesy of Q Shoe Guy)
NH DOMESTIC FLIGHTS WITH CONNECTION TO INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS
NH Visit Japan Fares 100% M (*)
NH Normal Seat 100% Y
NH Super Seat 125% S (*)
NH PURE DOMESTIC FLIGHTS
NH Visit Japan Fares 50% M
NH Normal Seat 100% Y
NH Super Seat 125% S (*)
(*) Booking classes of domestic flights will be converted for tracking
mileage as follows: S to C (125%) , M to Y (100%)

Platinum Points... What are they and how are the accrued?
Platinum Points are the points you accumulate which qualify you for elite status. On International flight an AMC member earns 1 PP per flight mile multiplied by the class of service (fare class) multiplier. For domestic flights, the member earns 2 PP per actual flight mile. The Jury is still out on exactly how domestic Super Seat bonus effects PP accrual. Diamond Elite requires 100,000 PP, Platinum Elite requires 50,000 PP and Bronze Elite requires 30,000 PP.
Platinum Point calculation will be based on mileage accrual in relation to the ratio established for fare type used and the basic mileage time used for the sector traveled. Campaign mileage or other bonus mileage does not qualify for point conversion. Points cannot be earned with mileage on flights other than ANA Group flights*2 or the other Star Alliance airlines, or on hotel or card mileage.
Flight mileage from travel on ANA Group flights*2 or the other Star Alliance airlines registered with a partner program does not qualify for point conversion.
Code share flights with applicable airline flight number printed on the ticket operated by airlines other than Star Alliance member airlines are not applicable for Platinum Point accrual.
Code-share flights operated by Fairinc are applicable only when reserved and boarded with an ANA flight number.

ANA Elite Status and Benefits

As per the ANA Platinum Desk on 9/3/04:
Notes Regarding SuperFlyers Card Eligibility:
This service is not available in the USA so one must apply through the Japanese SuperFlyer’s Desk. While residency in Japan is not required, you clearly need to have bank accounts, an address, and the necessary financial history in Japan that would be required for approval of your credit card application.

Note: Softbank has taken over the wifi concession in NH lounges. It has been a royal pain to get online my last two trips. During my most recent trip in March 2006 the connection was smooth. I already had the encryption settings etc in my PC. There's some bogus deal where you need to activate your day use via your Japanese cell phone, but just tell the desk you don't have one and they'll supply an id and pass. And for gosh sakes, make sure your wifi power switch is "on" unlike the the knucklehead I had to save in the lounge last December.

Recommended *G lounge at NH airports
United RCC at KIX (North Wing) due to moe English language reading material, wider choice of beverages, and more work stations.

Minimum check-in/transfer times at NH airports
The way this information reads to me is that you need to allow 3 hours between flights if you are transfering between NRT&HND and approximately 3.5 hours between KIX&ITM. These figures include travel time between airports and the time you need to arrive in advance of your flight. It seems that there is a typo on the KIX page. At the bottom it reads Haneda instead of Itami.

I shall just add a few points in response that I am aware of, and some suggestions for more categories.

Domestic Superseat
Based on a recent statement, PP is 3 x distance travelled and base mileage is 1.5x distance travelled (i.e. 1.5x values earned in Y). Elite tier bonus mileage is based on distance travelled and is same as that earned in Y.

Super Flyers Card
I think any information that could be provided on this would be useful.

Nick

NihonNick:

Thanks for your input. I've never maintained a master post before but I think that the way it works is that I edit my thread and keep track of how far down the thread I've grabbed info and placed it into post #1. If you edit your posts, once I incorporate your info in #2 to post #1, wi will no longer be looking at #2 for new info. So make an additional post please.

As for the seatmaps you suggested, I added a link to domestic seatmaps hosted on ana.co.jp. They do not host Intl seatmaps as far as I can find. I did look into the seat selection maps you referenced. These are by cabin and it would be a bit of work to grab all the cabins for all the aircraft and then combine them in photoshop. If someone wants to put it all together, I'll be happy to host the images. For now I feel as if my "official" ANA seatmaps from the 2003-04 timetable are sufficient.

I've been assured by ANA twice that the SuperSeat accrual premium is 100 miles. I believe this is applied before the 2 PP multiplier is applied. I had a statement that calculated my PP as 1.5 as well, however. Could it have something to do with the fact that the distance was so short that we got 1.5 rather than the 100 miles? I don't know. As I said the jury is still out on this.

I will attempt to confirm your other information and add to the OP.

Regards,

Scho

Looking at the 772 SuperStyle seatmap, is it safe to assume that 11 A/C have more room than the other C seats?

Yes, that is an exit row and first row of seats in business class. Beyond the exit is the "Bar Corner."

The link to the seatmap should be

http://www.ana.co.jp/eng/int/infligh...map/index.html

so that the English version is displayed instead of Japanese.

Good thread for info on NRT lounges

ANA lounge at NRT T1 - near gates 45/46 etc.

And this one is a true classic: Snow-kyo
Following a few FTers who were snowbound at NRT

And for those curious about the 747-400
Some nice pictures of New Style Business class at the top and bottom of this photo diary: www.rikiya.com/blog/archives/cat_18.html

Includes food, seats, the bar, a peak at a few lounges.

Right at the bottom there are a few photos of F class.
