Award redemptions for others (consolidated)
We're looking to go to Australia next year and ANA has good availability 330 days out and the award chart is good.
My g/f and I each have enough Amex MR and SPG points to transfer into separate accounts, but I have enough for both of us so it seems it would be easier to just book it as one ticket.
However, if we do that, I am a little concerned about the not being married thing, we live at the same address and all, though. Do they really check that? From old (5-10 year) posts, it seems there is conflicting information. Some say it is mostly unenforceable (do they really expect people to bring birth/marriage certificates to airport? Prove relationship to sibling-in law, and the like?). Others say better be safe than sorry (without much to back up).
But, I wonder if someone has more recent data points. Or better just book awards separately?
Thanks!

Just book separately to be safe. You know how to transfer AMEX points between each other right?
Particularly ANA is not as picky as other airlines. Like BR requires random checks of the CC you purchased to purchase the ticket at check in.

I guess then to play it safe we should book it separately, even though I am concerned we may get kicked on different flights should there be a delay/cancellation. What is the best way to go about booking 2 separate awards? We both go online and book tickets at the same time? Or, over the phone with both of of us on the line at the same time?
Thanks for all feedback ^

How do you transfer AMEX points? I have 105k MR, she has 90k.

You need to make her an secondary of your cards. She makes you one of her secondary hard holders.
Find an card that doesn't have an annual fee and give her an secondary card.
Our family does the same thing between the 3 and it works flawlessly.
We just keep the 2ndary cards in the drawer as we would never use them.

Could I just become an AU on hers if we wanted to put some of her MR into my ANA account? Only have 1 AMEX, and there's a fee with it. Hers has none.

ANA miles can only be redeemed to relatives?
One of my friend told me that her flights were cancelled because she was not the relative of the person who redeemed the ticket for her
Is that real?

Book friend as brother in law
Hi Everyone,
My buddy and I are looking to book 2 award tickets using ANA miles. A couple of questions. The flights are all on Air China and Asiana. Can I register him as my brother in law to book a ticket using my miles? I don't understand how they could possibly check that he is married to my sister. Since we aren't flying on ANA metal is there less to worry about? As long as the tickets are booked and confirmed are we good to go?
Thanks so much!

Also, I have never heard of ANA cancelling redemptions that have been ticketed, but they are within their rights to do so given that under the terms of their program this is considered fraud.
(That being said, I think this is a silly rule of theirs and I may or may not have broken it from time to time...)
