Shouldn't the title to this thread be modified?
It's no longer a rumor now that ANA has just
confirmed the order for three A380s?

I sincerely hope ANA doesn't configure it
as economy-only because the A380 can
easily seat over 850 passengers. (!!!)

Wasn't the Japanese domestic commuter market one of the originally envisioned uses for the A380? @:-)

I'm giving a 25% chance ANA goes for the 11-abreast seating in Y

No, at least Skymark bought the 380 are aimed for international, and NRT-JFK is the route intended to be, and they will operate in a 2 class layout C and PY, just like their layout for their 330

And if the domestic market have envisioned for 380, NH and JL wouldnt even getting rid of their 744D in the first place, none of those were up their age before they retire, not to mention there are airports in Japan had banned 4 engines planes because of noise.

I doubt very much that any exceptions will be made for NH. I could imagine several airlines wanting to fly an A380 into HND that would quickly line up with demands.

I doubt there will even be a big J cabin... heavy focus on W and Y.
I'll give it a 99% chance of no F at all. The main part of the market is package tours, and while there are a lot of tours selling J, I doubt the market for F. It would end up being redemption paradise, and that hardly makes a good profit margin.

You're welcome.

Just as a reminder, this is what 11-abreast on the A380 looks like.
Very uncomfortable for the window seat guy.

Yes, but ancient history still makes a joke.

As a Danish politician once said while speaking in parliament "you have a point of view, until you adopt a new one"

I wouldn't really think 11 across would happen but I'm positive they would make the legroom worse than any other jet they have now.

A lengthy Japanese piece in Aviation Wire says there will be a first class cabin, and that the 380s will be used exclusively for HNL. The precise seating configuration is TBD, and they are also unsure whether the operating carrier will be NH or NQ.

I have not idea how they can justify the extra expense for pilots and
maintenance for just three A380s. Of course, maybe they're starting
out with just three and plan to get another ten later on?

It also says they will operate it from both Haneda and Narita. Given the current regulations that seems a bit optimistic....

Last February, I flew ANA from ORD to NRT. On the return, I decided to make
a stop in HNL.(then fly UA from HNL back to ORD) On the ANA flight to HNL,
I was expecting it to be almost completely filled with Japanese tourists who
wanted some Hawaiian sun. Boy, was I wrong, more than half of the plane
was filled with Chinese tourists on escorted tours. I guess they flew ANA from
Shanghai/Beijing and connect to the HNL flight. It must not have been some
random thing because ANA even had Mandarin Chinese speaking CAs to deal
with the Chinese passengers.

Perhaps the A380 can help ANA ferry more Chinese tourists to HNL?
