Exclamation New ANA/partner award charts to take effect April 12, 2015

New award chart will be effective as of 4/12/15. Main takeaways:

1. New award chart will be zone based. Two stopovers each way is allowed (no more four stopovers).
2. Star Alliance award will be based on ANA's regular chart.

Details are as below. No English version is found.

Stopovers are now limited to one each way (unless you are on an ANA redemption ex-Japan, then you get zero); two connections are allowed each way.

In addition, redemptions including a domestic Japanese sector will no longer require a mileage supplement.

The new mileage charts (in Japanese) can be found here:
ANA redemptions: https://www.ana.co.jp/amc/news/info/.../chart_nh1.pdf
Partner redemptions: https://www.ana.co.jp/amc/news/info/...art_teikei.pdf

I haven't absorbed the changes yet, but this seems like an overall increase. If they allow one-way awards using this system I will be pleased, however.

Hmm.
For ANA redemptions, they are adding the seasonality changes in cost for first class. NH F awards needing up 50% miles more than the previous chart. Long haul NH Y and C awards seem to be similar to before.

But this might make taking a connecting flight via a partner cheaper than the previous distance method?

Will have to look at the details further.

NH has been operating a more-or-less revenue-based FFP for the past few years, given they only give 100% credit for the highest Y fares. As a result, we shouldn't see the massive redemption rate inflation that has hit some of the US carriers recently. That being said, the benefits of being an NH elite have been getting thinner and thinner lately, and this rather incomplete announcement doesn't help.

No word on whether the partner award chart is for a one-way or round-trip?

Zone 1-A is for direct round trips on the international portion (like NRT-ORD-NRT) on partner airlines, and the pricing is the same as for Regular Season ANA flights. You can still have domestic legs within Japan.

(The key point is "only two international legs", so open jaws probably are't ruled out.)

Zone 1-B is for less direct trips on partner airlines originating or ending in Japan.

Well, the page doesn't say, so we can't be certain yet. It would be logical to assume it is indeed round-trip, but we all know what they say about assuming...!

No information on this was provided, but I would assume all taxes and fees will continue to be passed on as usual.

If you put all the Japanese together, it's 100% clear they're talking about roundtrips.

Point 2 essentially refers to Zone 1-A... the explanation under the Point 2 heading refers to chokkoubin (direct flights) oufuku (round trip), and the explanation in the table explains that 1-A is for trips with only two international legs... and there is plenty of other information in the various explanations that makes no sense whatever in the context of one-way trips.
