Same here. I flew 7 AZ legs after the promotion was activated (miles for all legs were posted with the additional "VOLA AL TOP" bonus).
Last Friday (3 Jul) I had an AZ flight in the evening and for the first time in months had baggage to check in excess of 20kg (28kg, to be precise) so was counting on the "Freccia Alata" benefits.
Just to be safe, in the morning I logged into my account and it was showing the normal "MilleMiglia" logo!! Called the MilleMiglia call-centre and the agent confirmed that I was listed as a base member. It took a good 10 minutes to explain the whole promotion thing and the potential issues with my upcoming flight; afterwards, the agent simply said that there was nothing he could do. Called again, explained my case to another agent. She promised to look into this matter and call me back within 3 hours (yeah, right). As expected, no call.
Fortunately, the check-in agent at the airport did not complain about my 8kg overweight, despite there was no status recognition in the system (in fact the boarding pass was not showing "CFA").
I was prepared to follow-up with AZ, but yesterday my status changed back to "Freccia Alata". Not sure if this was due to an automatic update in the system, or to the kind intervention of the second agent that I called last Friday.
The only issue is that I still have an expired card (exp: 06/2009)...

Looks like it was an automatic update: mine returned to FA+ after a brief downgrade to basic MM member and I did not contact AZ about it.
Yeah, likely it is because you flew AP which wasn't fully integrated in AZ IT system until last weekend.
By the way 3 and 2 are segments or RT flights?
1 return trip AMS-FCO-TRN // TRN-FCO-LIN-AMS, with FCO-TRN-FCO booked as AP (and actually 3 times AP metal, as the AZ MD-82 on AMS-FCO was subbed with a brand new AP A320).
If you have reached Silver, Gold or Platinum level frequent flyer membership with an airline that is not a member of SkyTeam, this promotion is made for you.
Register by October 31, 2009.
Within that date it is necessary to complete the online application form and send the documentation via fax to +39 06 91620052. Please be sure to include the form downloaded from the website with all sections correctly filled-out and a copy of the valid card from another frequent flyer program you are currently holding. You will receive:
Membership to one of Alitalia’s MilleMiglia Program’s exclusive clubs, and enjoy all the club privileges through December 31, 2009.
Membership renewal for 12 months following December 31, 2009 by accumulating during the second half year of 2009:
10,000 qualifying miles to renew your Club Ulisse status
25,000 qualifying miles to renew your Freccia Alata status
40,000 qualifying miles to renew your Freccia Alata Plus status.
20,000 bonus miles which can be immediately redeemed toward award travel to any destination in Italy or select destinations in Europe. The bonus miles will be applied to your account once you have earned 20,000 qualifying miles. To receive the bonus miles, qualifying miles must be earned during the second half year of 2009.
To take advantage of this promotion, you must join the MilleMiglia program. If you’re not already a member, there’s no time like the present to become one! Click on the link below to complete the online MilleMiglia membership form. You will receive 2,000 welcome bonus miles by flying with Alitalia Air One or our Skyteam partner airlines within 3 months of registration to the program.
OK, they are at it again with a second edition, valid this time till October 31st.
I've tried for a week and the FAX number they give will not answer. Anyone else have luck? I'm guessing someone is on vacation due to the recent holiday??? Thanks.

If I were to do a status match vide this promotion but did not accumulate enough miles, will there be a soft-landing to the next lower level or is it straight to zero and basic level membership?

Straight to zero-basic level. AZ do not offer soft landings

I don´t know why but it doesn´t work with me?! I am a LH SEN and I sent the fax, completed the form and even mailed and called a few times - nothing for weeks now
Just got my SAS Eurobonus Gold matched today and only 2 days after I faxed the application form.
When to expect the nice Freccia Alata plastic card to arrive?
They do not send cards individually...I think you will have to wait they collect a correct amount of requests and they they will send them out.
In the meantime print your profile. When you will check in AZ-AP counter they will recognise you even without that....
