Kiltboys I see your disappointment but if you wanna get a Gold or Silver status you have to do some effort, don't you think?
I mean, you get for 4 flights something which cost thousands of Euro and a lot of travels to somebody else.
It is almost free... after all.
Anyway it is a fax-only procedure which pass through a (very slim) office based in Rome and has nothing to do with the call-center.
PS:You don't get any feedback even for status match with LH... a promo which is currently active for Italy residents only until 30 April.

I agree with you- status requires effort, which is why I have currently enjoy the benefits of OW Emerald.
Alitalia has a promotion targeting people who, as you point out, spend thousands and thousands of dollars/euros/pounds on premium travel. They would like these top travellers to switch some business to them. They are not a charity- this is business.
Unfortunately, the execution of the promo has actually diminished the AZ brand for me. When a company promises 2 day turnaround on a status match, and don't come though, I start to wonder what else they don't tell the truth about. That's just me.
Some people, who applied thru the same "slim office in Rome" had a match the next day, some in 30 days, and some not yet, maybe never. This inconsistency makes my feverish brain wonder what else they are inconsistent about. Again, that's just me.
I don't want to chase an airline for unposted points, lost luggage, late flights etc, and while they ALL are guilty of this, I feel that when an airline's right hand (millemiglia club) so obviously doesn't know what its left hand (marketing dept) is doing, well it doesn't bode well for a lognterm relationship!

Agree Squerez. A two day promise is a demanding promise but one you should make only if you can maintain it..
A pity for me as I live in Italy and using AZ more for me would be a real possibility - guess it won't happen..

However I think that a Gold status may need some effort.
At the same time an airline cannot pretend that an applicant will send them many faxes/calls because they do not answer!

Here we go- they have replied via e mail asking me to fax my card details etc. Mmm done that already - a few times - but we are getting somewhere. Looks like I might be returning to AZ - waiting for a reply before booking all my flights though..

The M&M phone support is aware of the initiative, but clueless about the details (eg: how long will it take to get the status, after completing the required return flight?).
Although I took 3 AZ and 2 AP flights within the time frame, alitalia.com now lists me as a general member

It shouldn't.
If you had to do 4 legs and you did 3 with AZ and the remaining with AP you are OK.
The only problem then is in the system: one week ago they melted together AP and AZ booking systems...and maybe some record have been lost.
So, no excuse for AZ, but you will have to check that they have recorded your flights!
I only hope they will not use this opportunity to show how badly organized they still are.
