I have since made it to FA+ through the status match. I am not hopeful to receive my card before its expiry.
As to recognition by other ST members, in principle the system should pick it up. In practice, however, it is somewhat pot luck. My AF BPs invariably fail to mention my ST E+ status. I have to go to the counter and have them enter it manually. They usually require my card but are happy with the e-mail confirmation/card that AZ sent me.
Some general info for you all:

Status check may take time mainly because AZ is currently under restructuration.

If you do not receive anything from AZ you may always ask the call-center (or via e-mail) to receive a confirmation of your status by e-mail. They send you an email that you may print and show to all airline partners.
ST airlines have been advised and they will accept it at least for the next full month.

Last Friday 27 March AZ sent out the last lot of AZ card... I got mine (very nice, better than the previous) last week. So, in few weeks, everybody should get it.

Those who applied for the status check likely (words from an AZ employee) will take only the electronic version and the plastic one later and only if they qualify before 30 June for a renewal valid until December 2009.

LH on the counter-offensive

It would seem LH is replying with its own "Fly to the top" promotion. This is from an e-mail I got:

"Raggiunga subito il suo status con Miles & More

Chi viaggia spesso sa quanto siano importanti i vantaggi riservati ai frequent flyers, che grazie agli status raggiunti hanno a disposizione tanti privilegi prima e durante il viaggio. Fino alla fine di aprile Miles & More offre la possibilità ai possessori di carta Silver o Gold di qualunque compagnia non facente parte di Star Alliance, di equiparare il proprio status a quello di Frequent Traveller o Senator Miles & More."

Sorry for it being in Italian. You can find all the info here in English.

Promotion limited to Italian residents. You need to register and make one return flight before end of May.

Thought this was interesting for those of you who came from OW, acquired Ulisse, FA or FA+ and can now move on to M&M...

Freccia Alata is equivalent to ELITE PLUS in every ST airline. Check also here www.skyteam.com

Even if it hasn't been updated for a while, you might find this site very intresting.

What a nightmare company to deal with!

3 faxes have gone unactioned and unacknowleged.

Called Alitalia Millemiglia Customer Service (located in Palermo, Italy) and they never heard of this promotion. I read the agent the link, and she managed to pull it up on her computer. Apparently her manager is going to figure out what the right department is, and will send them an email to u/g my status. This will apparently happen within 2 days.

I will believe this when I see it. How can the Customer Service department for MM not be aware of this promo?

I will post back the results. Hopefully, I will have to eat my words.

Have to say that this is pure brilliance! Very good piece of info - keep us posted on any AZ / AP news. Freccia Alata plus gives top elite status on skyteam - correct?

Strange thing was that when I checked the internet site it clearly says that the promotion is valid till April 30 2009 - but on the downloadable application form it says "..forms must be sent no later than March 30 2009"
Anyway I'm trying too - I'll keep you all posted. With BA gold lets see if = alata "plus"

2 weeks ago I spoke with a person working in AZ lounges and she confirmed to me 30 March as final date to send applications.

Squerez,
(or anybody else that tried this)

Did you end up applying for the status match with LH?

I did. However, I didn't get any acknowledgement after I faxed the documents...
Did anybody receive any feedback from LH after applying for this promotion?

The M&M phone support is aware of the initiative, but clueless about the details (eg: how long will it take to get the status, after completing the required return flight?).

I applied, but didn't get acknowledgement either.

I flew the outgoing sector last Monday. Return will be Friday. Add the number of days for the miles to be credited to the account and I should be able to tell you something next week. Fingers crossed...

Some signs of life...

The call to Palermo yesterday has triggered an email from Alitalia, as follows:

"Dear Kiltboys-

We have received your request to join the “Fly to the Top” initiative.

We would like to remind you that, in order to participate in this initiative, it is necessary to print and complete the form, available on the website and send it via fax to 0039 06 91620052 with a copy of the current card you are holding, which shows that you belong to a frequent flyer Program with an airline that is not part of the SkyTeam alliance.

For further information on the MilleMiglia Program please visit alitalia.com.

Arrivederci and we look forward to welcoming you on board."

Okay- so it's not a status match yet, and I have faxed the documentation 3 times...but it is at least a sign of a pulse from the airline, and confirmation that the deadline is not March 31.
