Please don't move this to Travel with Children because it is Alitalia-specific, and I will really benefit from people's insights here.
I am considering Alitalia for my BOS-TLV trip in March. I have a one-year-old for whom I WANTED to buy a seat.
I have learned that Alitalia forbids this. (Why they won't allow me to give them money, ask their bankruptcy judge, I guess...)
However, they discuss having cots for children, and accoring to their web site, it SOUNDS like they have something other than the usual baby bassinet that hooks into the wall.
Have any of you seen these in action? How old/big were the kids using them?
My son is too heavy for the usual baby bassinet, but if they have another option that will work for us, then I might go with them.
...you do understand that Alitalia is in the process of restructuring itself...There is no way I would consider buying a ticket on them for travel further than 2-3 weeks out. Especially so when travelling with an infant or another person on whom a couple of extra connections may take a toll.

Hello, I have a one-year old kid who is huge. This Summer when I needed to travel LAX-FCO on a 777 (but the bassinets are the same as the 767 I guess) I called up the call center. I told them the weight of my son - 14 kilos/28pounds... yes, he's huge I told you
The call center told me to either buy a "child" ticket -- pretending he's 2 years old -- or keep him in my lap for the whole way. I bought a ticket with the miles pretending he was a 2-yr old child.

You are kidding...
About 4 weeks ago, I booked a LON-TLV return for April with Alitalia (2 adults, 2 children, 1 infant).
What am I risking here?
...I came here to view discussion on cots in-flight, but now you've opened a whole new issue!

Things that have been happening and/or may keep happening and may or may not happen to you (from most probable to least):
1) A strike disrupting (part of) your plans
2) (some of) your flights getting cancelled because they've sold the slots/planes/have too few bookings/etc
3) Your origin/destination disappearing from the AZ network (happened to me with two different destinations in the last six months- but they did rebook me on AF)
4) (some of) your flights being moved to AP and/or requiring an extra transfer via MXP
5) Alitalia getting totally liquidated and grounded.

Now,at least on a financial groung AZ should be pretty stable.
On 13th of January there will be the transition to the new company and nothing changes for ticket or FF card holders.
So you might have some operational problems but the outlook is now much better, so:
1) possible, probably is the biggest cause of concern
2) possible but now they should be on a better health
3) unlikely, now major cuts sould be over
4) unlikely, MXP in being downsized
5) very unlikely
(basically I agree with prevoius post, but my message is not to warry too much)
