How long do you think AZ will continue operations?

I have a BOS-MXP scheduled for the 16th back the 30th... and another this summer... not looking pretty.

Any ideas out there?

You should have your answer by the middle of this upcoming week... the unions will either agree to accept the AF/KL terms or not, and AF will either agree to return to the table or not.

After the unions accept a chance at survival (my prediction), then the foolish politicians will probably swallow their objections.

You should be fine on your first set of tickets. You might want to chargeback (or refund, if possible), the second.

Actually, reading the AP report from today posted in the other thread by Nicolas75, if the unions do not relent today (Sunday) and AF/KL board does not vote on Monday to come back to the table, then it is conceivable that this airline could shut down mid-week.

Two words to anyone holding Alitalia tickets at this point in time: trip insurance. Make sure the fine print still covers Alitalia bankruptcy however

Unhappy credit card money refund?

I bought alitalia tickets for jfk a couple of months ago. Things are looking pretty bad for the airline right now and I sure hate to loose five airline tickets. I read some where on these forums (but I don't remember where) something about paying with a credit card and maybe there could be a possible refund. I bought online on the Alitalia website and I did used my credit card. Is there anyone that knows if there is anyway of getting a refund due to the fact that most likely these people will go bankrupt. My tickets are in economy class and are restricted. Any help is appreciated and I kindly thank you all very much.

I would first check the AZ web site and see if they are still selling tickets for your flight. It is possible your flight may already be cancelled to MXP.

I flagged the AZ issue to my brother, who had tickets from LHR-MXP this summer, and his flight had already been cancelled - and he was never contacted. They told him they would give him a refund tomorrow.

Nevertheless he purchased tickets on BA - at still a good fare. The good fares on other airlines may go away if AZ fails.

AZ could still sell a ticket from LHR-MXP, but with a stopover in AMS (likely KL) at a price 5 times the price before.

AZ is still selling tickets and their flight loads at least for the next few weeks are pretty solid... seems to me they would continue to sell tickets anyway up until the last minute...or am I incorrect?
which flights are you seeing as cancelled?

I forgot to add in my todays 1:15pm previous post, that I tickets I bought are for an early August and flying I'm out from Rome to JFK. That is why I was hoping to ask for some kind of refund, if possible, before it goes bankrupt. Of course I do need to look for new tickets. Thanks again

I don't believe that they will shut down operations. They can go into an Italian version of Chpt. 11 bankruptcy. An administrator is then in charge and can restructure the airline to make it profitable. If this happens the unions workers will face a lot more job cuts than if they had chosen to go with Air France. They're hoping that somehow the new Italian Government will bail out Alitalia. That's why they don't want the Alitalia Board to make any decisions before the elections.

I read an article today where they're hoping the new government will pressure Air France and the French Government to accept the union's proposals. Has anyone told them that Air France is not a state run airline any longer?

I disagree... if the AF/KL is really not going to happen, the plug will be pulled within days. Similar to Swissair and Sabena!

Unhappy worry...

I will have a flight from LHR to BOS via FCO next Monday and feel very worried if I need to buy a new ticket now.

What should I do now?
