So through Delta, I booked the first part of my honeymoon on AZ (BCN-FCO-ATH)...if/when AZ ceases ops, I imagine DL will reaccommodate us (AF/KL,etc)...of course this is probably not the forum to ask that.
Thanks for anything...
I booked NRT-FCO-EZE for December with NWA mileage and they said if AZ goes belly up that it was NWA responsibility to put me on another SKYTEAM carrier--same biz class.

Hope that stands true!
I just don't think that is true, unfortunately. And NW cannot simply make award availability appear like magic on other carriers.
But given that your travel is not until December, I would bet that you will be all right... either AZ will be dead by then and you will have plenty of time for alternatives, or AZ will have been resuscitated long before then.
Does anyone know to what extent advanced bookings have been adversely affected by the uncertainties surrounding the future of AZ?
Has anyone noticed whether or not advanced bookings on other Skyteam carriers to Italy are running heavier than normal?
I justed booked 3 business class RTs BOS-FCO for July and took advantage of the CO sale in Business First. I would have preferred the AZ nonstop flight from BOS, and I waited as long as I could, but finally had to pull the trigger.

NW will have to buy a revenue ticket on another airline if they cannot find award availability.

I disagree! The ticket was issued by AZ with an AZ ticket number. The form of payment was NW miles. So how do you see this as NW's problem? I am not even sure that NW can get the miles back? If the flights do not operate, it would be AZ's responsibility to see it through, and good luck with that!

One would hope that would be the case but I have my doubts. I expect they would refund the miles to your account and then help find another Skyteam routing with availability.
Personally as one who is sitting on two J AZ tickets I am not really too concerned at the moment, I can see the AF/KLM deal going through eventually and them honouring tickets where possible.

Seeing that it was issued by NW using WorldPerks miles it is issued on NW stock (eticket would begin with 012 as opposed to Alitalia 055 stock). The eticket should clearly reflect this. It is NW's responsibility to rebook you in case of AZ's collapse.

I have a fall trip on AZ using DL miles; DL told me at the time of booking that any itinerary problems that should occur should be addressed thru DL. So with all this AZ uncertainty, I spoke w/DL re: this. Again I was reassured that they would book me on either DL or another Skyteam carrier. At least on DL, I think this is like any other problem with an award ticket schedule change. I had a recent SLC-HNL schedule change and they moved me to the nonstop - which had no award availability - as the agent said they are allowed to override it in these cases.

Absolutely not true. If a ticket is issued using NW miles it will be on the NW ticket stock. AZ won't get any revenue from NW before it has lifted the "coupons" from the eticket. In a worse case scenario NW just redeposit the miles and credit back the taxes/fees charged.
As you can see I'm from Italy maybe you know that now there's a new prime minister. So I hope that Air France-Klm will buy Alitalia, but I do not think that it will fly longer. So if you have got any tickets do not worry Alitalia will fly even if it will fail, especially with this new government. You are in good hand even if it doesn't seem

At this point a collapse of AZ will be a huge black eye for Burlesque-one (Berlusconi)... perhaps you're right, he won't let it fail. He could bail it out personally. I know a way to do that without violating EU rules... create a new ticket class, the ultima magnifica class. A single round trip ticket (which books a 777, exclusive use, r/t MXP-JFK) will cost 3 50 million Euro. He could fly that once and give them another four months of life.
So that clown Berlosconi, with his nationalistic posturing and rhetoric, may yet be responsible for the downfall of a once great carrier, instead of it's saviour. Shame on him.
Still, looks like Aeroflot might get a shot at it now

It would have been difficult for Air France-KLM to run AZ with Unions who still don't understand the catastrofic situation of the airline. Alea jacta est !
Let's bet how many weeks AZ will need to join SR in the airline's Heaven.

It was nice of AF / KLM to at least wait until the Pope had flown home before officially pulling the plug.
For now, I suppose AZ could "sell" a bunch of airplanes to those mysterious Italian bankers that Berlusconi keeps talking about. Then AZ could lease them back for 1 Euro a year or something like that - it's probably akin to taking out a second mortgage on a house. Still, it would probably be best (though painful) to wrap up AZ then recreate a new national airline this time hopefully without the unions.
