I-DEIG had the new seats installed in October/ December 2006.
EI-DDW is still having them installed. Dont know why its taking 3 months.
EI-DBP, EI-CRD, EI-CRF should have been done by summer but I highly doubt it at this point.

And, to make it easier to spot them, look at the name on the nose:
EI-CRM .... Amerigo Vespucci
EI-DDW ... Sebastiano Caboto
I-DEIG ..... Francesco Agello

Little update.
EI-DDW is back and back in service with new configuration
EI-CRM went to GSO for a check and should be back at the end of the month (right now there are still 2 764).
On April 1st EI-DBP will go to GSO and will be back my July.
So by the summer season there will be 4 767 with new J.

Also sad detail. Beginning of 2008 I-DEIB, I-DEIC, and I-DEID will leave the feel because AZ did not renew their leasing contracts.
This will leave us with 10 767's.

EI-CRF Umberto Nobile Eurofly Configuration 762. Should be reconfigured by summer.
I saw EI-CRF parked at MXP a couple weeks ago. As best as I could see, the name Umberto Nobile was not on the nose- part of a repainting I presume? Or might they be renaming them as they reconfigure them?

Sad. I've flown all three of those this year.

If they're dropping 3 of the 767's, does that mean they're planning to drop routes? (or, magari, put 777's on ORD-MXP?????)

Dropping PVG, DEL and maybe DXB. So rumors say at least...

Yeah, if no new planes come at the last moment some routes will have to be cut. I am predicting PVG and BOM to go 1st, then possibly DEL or DXB (reductions) if needed. Also predicting there will not be a second daily FCO-JFK next summer.
For the 777 on MXP-ORD... not in the near future...

The name should be on the front left hand side of the plane... they are all in the same place considering no 767 have the new livery as of yet, and i doubt they will anytime soon...

It's sad.

update from MXP-YYZ

My reservation showed that my MXP-YYZ on 3/18 was supposed to be on a 774 (Gasp!!) .. I was sooo excited that I gleefully endured the pain of lumpy seats and broken footrests on the three other segments I had to fly before this one (YYZ-MXP-BOM-MXP) all in the old Magnifica. The upshot was that we got the new Bvlgari amenity kits on the YYZ-MXP leg, which was lovely !!

The sad part was that after all that excitement and anticipation, we got a 767 on that fateful flight too
None of the inflight attendants had an idea of what I was talking about either when I asked them if this flight was supposed to be on a 774. Some even looked at me like I was out of my mind when I mentioned the "new Magnifica"... is there something we know that the Alitalia staff do not?

This is FlyerTalk. We all find that there are often things we know that the staff of the airline doesn't know, not just with AZ, but with any of the companies.

That goes with the basic rule of thumb- if you've learned here that something should be a certain way, and a customer service agent tells you differently, hang up and call back till you get someone who gives you the right answer.

Alitalia have been having problems with their 767 fleet so there have been frequent plane changes...

And its 764 by the way nont 774. Anyways better luck next time

I'm batting 4 for 5 so far this year, 4 of my flights have been on the equipment they are dropping. I was on I-DEID Marco Polo last night, second time this year, and it's deteriorated since January. Seems they're letting maintanence slip on those planes.

Two of the four coach lavs were taped shut with out of service signs. A third one had a bad door latch, it could still be pushed open when locked, and half the time when people locked it the sign didn't slide from green to red... so lots of walk-in incidents during the flight.

The crew, on the other hand, was excellent- much more active than usual. They would jump at the FA call button and almost run to check on the person who paged them, they were always around and available, and kept the beverages flowing. (still, with just two operable lavs, towards the latter half of the flight those were getting rather messy). Of course, as is usual on AZ, the seat belt sign was on for 3/4th of the flight, but the pax pretty much ignored it the whole time.

The flight was completely full, overbooked in both cabins, so at least AZ earned some money.

Make that 5 out of 6- I just got I-DEID Marco Polo for the third time this year.
At least they fixed the lavs in time for this flight. (well, partly- that lock still didn't work completely).
But again, the crew was much more active than what we've come to expect from AZ- they were always available, and kept the plane clean.

Gargoyle... it's extremely sad that they keep some planes in those conditions.

But I'm glad you appreciate the AZ crews. Some are fantastic.... a couple are horrendous. The inconsistency is what gives them a bad name...

At least for the lav's there is some type of SLOW improvement.

Don't know of any of you AZ regulars can help me here...I'm flying BOM-MXP in June, it's an overnight flight - any word on how good the Business Class seats are on this route? I normally go BA (sorry!) so have got kind of used to their flat beds...but on this occasion commitments and schedules require me to take AZ. Any info gratefully recieved!

Grazie mille
