Alitalia "big announcement" - October 13th, 2015

Mr Cordero di Montezemolo (AZ), Mr Hogan (EY) are jointly holding a press conference next Tuesday at Fiumicino Airport in Rome in order to reveal some "important news".

No more details so far.

A "friendly" takeover? Probably just a tighter bilateral partnership.

PEK is probably the most likely new destination, especially with all the ST partner traffic going on (mainly CZ but also China Eastern).

Perhaps a re-organisation of the current domestic/European network would be beneficial, as a start: back to the days when MXP was the carrier's main hub, apart from the shambolic management, the airline at least had a rather extensive and efficient hub-and-spoke network, with the majority of flights from regional airports feeding MXP and a much smaller number of point-to-point connections from/to FCO, whereas you now tend to see the likes of PSA-TIA (2/3 times weekly), not to mention the significant network from LIN and the few international services left from MXP and even VCE. All very confusing and dispersive to say the least, but I'm now officially off-topic

The latest gossip (but that is just gossip so take it with a grain of salt) say that they want to remove the names Classica Plus and Magnifica and go back to standard Business and Economy Plus names.

The idea behind that is to align the product to the market and maybe reuse the name Magnifica for Eti First Class.

If we were talking another company, I'd doubt it. With AZ involved I now believe anything can happen.

Less announcements and more action! We've heard nothing but announcements for a decade at least.

SFO would be great!!

However, given Mr Hogan's involvement, it's probably more than just rebranding the names of the various classes (though it is probably a good idea).

EDIT: Could it be the announcement of a new CEO?

The website doesn't show "Magnifica" and "Classica Plus" anymore…
Also, it seems like the menu in Economy Plus may once again be different from standard economy.
