There's quite a lot about it on the Internet if you do a Google search for 'Alitalia Strike 20 July'.

I'm in the same boat. Flight booked from Tirana to Milan on 20 July. Tirana has very limited services to anywhere so my chances of a re-route are slim to say the least. First time ever on Alitalia. Wish I hadn't bothered.

Check out your rights under EU261 regulations on http://eur-lex.europa.eu/resource.ht...C_1&format=PDF

I've read in some Italian website that this strike had been cancelled
Can't find it anymore

Also this site (that is updated) does not show Alitalia strike on the 20th...

I'd prob say this is the one:

sector PLANE : AIR TRANSPORT SECTOR GENERAL STRIKE
mode: 24 HOURS: HOURS FROM 0:00 AM TO 23:59
(OS USB WORK PRIVATE TRANSPORT)[/QUOTE]

Don't hold me to that though. There's time for it to be cancelled so let's keep our fingers crossed. EU261 doesn't cover strikes but it does cover duty of care (meals, hotels etc).

Did a quick translate in Google. Maybe it looks like it might be called off. Called AZ in London today who claimed to know nothing about a strike. In my book that's telling lies.

Agree with both those sentiments. Alitalia have had a pretty poor reputation for as long as I remember but their unions don't seem to have realized that the Ethihad deal may be their last chance of survival. The ball is well and truly in their court now so if it all goes belly up, they have only themselves to blame. Unfortunately, on the TIA/MXP route, they're the best of a bad bunch.

Anyone have an experience how to deal with those flights booked through expedia.com?

Until (and if) the flights are officially cancelled, there's nothing anyone will do. Unfortunately, that may not happen until the day of departure which doesn't help anyone who might like to proactively make other arrangements. I could protect myself by buying a new ticket with Adria through LJU but am loathe to pay twice for the same journey. I suppose Expedia's hands are tied on this one until something more concrete happens. It's a fact of life though that most of these online TA's call centres are in India where the call centre agents seem to read through a set script most of the time. Any deviation from that or using a bit of common sense is rare.
