2,000 miles for registration;

Value of this promotion?
Would it make sense to join MilleMiglia during this promotion for a flyertalker who lives in the US & has no immediate plans to fly Alitalia?
I see from the MM program that Alitalia is part of skyteam, but these bonus miles alone are not going to be useable.
Is there a provision for transferring MM miles from one account to another?

I joined last week but my acct balance is still listed as zero. I was hoping for an automatic balance of 2000 miles...but it looks like it may take a month or so.
