I'm relatively new to all this. I started my Mileage Plan account in the summer of 2008, and as of the end of 2008 I had about 14,000 elite-tier status qualifying miles.
I thought that, while the miles were mine to keep, my elite-tier qualifying miles would reset to zero at the beginning of the new year. But looking at my account, they're still there.
Does that mean that if I fly 6,000 miles in 2009 (which I'll surely do anyway), I'll make MVP for 2009/2010? Or have they just not reset the counter yet?

EQMs were zeroed out at midnight 1/1. My guess is that AS leaves the EQM balance from last year showing in order to allow any late-posting miles to show up. I remember this happening last year. Believe me when I say those 14K EQMs will be disappearing shortly.
the Mr. qualified for MVPG for the first time on our way to ORD 12/23. By the time we returned on 12/29, his status was already up to date and his boarding pass had those magic letters..MVPG!
I was impressed with the speed of both the miles posting and AS recognizing his newly upgraded status. We were already in F on paper certs but it was still nice to see. :-)
