I've redeemed hundreds of thousands of CO points for premium cabin rewards at the saver level, most of which would be considered illegal rewards under the AS program due to AS's restrictions on partner combinations. How exactly is that bad?
Just wondering if anyone at AS can share whether the miles burn rate is substantially higher lately?
Myself, I burnt 80k miles for 8 flights up and down the west coast in the next few months: YVR-SJC / YVR-LAX, etc. Not the best use of miles (I'm getting between 1.2-1.7 cents/miles). Still have 50k left for a Japan award on AA (haven't finalized my dates so can't book).
I'm sure others are burning their miles for BA or AS awards, etc.
We burned 160k each for an Alaska BA first award to Cape Town.

I thought I would bump this thread back towards the top. May the moderator could create a sticky for the time being. If I read correctly, the new effective date (due to delays in implementation) is Nov 19th right?

Yup, I redeemed an award today and the agent confirmed this.
I redeemed 4 saver awards at 20K each for the family to go to SE Alaska next August. Managed to work a stopover in Juneau, since it is a legal connection on the way to Wrangell to see the bears at Anan Bay and the LeConte Glacier. Besides the miles, they only charged us $7.50 per ticket in taxes/fees.
i was booking first class award tickets with my wife and i's mileage plan accounts, and the last A saver seat (for her) got ripped away right as it was processing the credit card.
her balance cannot cover the standard first class non-saver ...
kinda steamed ..
EDIT:
I even hit the mouse button at the same time on two different computers on the credit card submit .. but looks like there was only one bookable saver. I got it, she didn't. In order to avoid an incident (aka, her in coach, me in first class) i just opted to purchase the 6000 miles... oh well :/
Well, my anecdotal evidence suggests this is a relative non-event. Even next week during the holiday I found very few flights that required the full flex option. I just wish there was an option to do a search for flights that do not require an overnight enroute.
On another note, was there an increase in AA domestic first class award redemptions? I thought it was 50K, but now it's 60K. Luckily DL is still only 45K.
I really really thought about pulling the trigger and using a few as50 awards to Hawaii, saving 500 bucks on a 1500 RT plus 30K miles for a F class fare, but decided I would rather just sit in coach for 300-400 bucks and hope my upgrades clear just like the majority of people sitting in F.
So, Alaska loses 700 bucks because of their new AS50 policy, probably three times over chez lala.

How're you going to save $500 RT?

* The maximum discount is up to $250 for round-trip or up to $125 for one-way.
Have you actually done this? If I go to the award screen for a one-way I get the following:
Quote:
I want to use miles to redeem an award ticket
I want to use 7,500 miles to shop for fares that are 50% off the lowest price (maximum discount is $125)
I want to use 7,500 miles to shop fares that are 50% off unrestricted fares (maximum discount is $125)
The max is not $250 per transaction, it's $250 per round trip, or $125 per one way, no matter how you purchase it.

Missy mentioned sometime in the dim past that this, uh, "unadvertised feature" of the AS50 (15K miles, used as a one way and giving you $250 off) has to be done over the phone- you can't do it online.

snoozed and lost...
I had been debating my Christmas plans and looking at award availability for the past week or so. Was waiting for my schedule to firm up. Forgot the 19th was coming so fast...
Found all kinds of Coach award options for 27,500 over the holidays that I could have booked for 20,000 yesterday - what was I thinking? As MVPG I could have booked and cancelled with no penalty. Maybe I'll spend cash now...55,000 miles could be used in many more creative ways. Maybe...only time will tell.
