A new way to get a free upgrade---whine!

I was recently on a ANC to SEA flight in First class thanks to my status. First class was not full (4 empty seats) and just before the flight pushed back, one of the FA's escorted a young female adult passenger from coach to the seat next to mine. She was crying and looked in a bad way. She told me that something awful had happend to her recently. The FA told me they were moving her up front becuase she had complained that she was not feeling very well, she was having crowding problems and felt she might get really sick. After the plane took off, her upset stomach must have gotten better becuase she ordered a dinner and ate every bite of it. She also felt well enough to spend the rest of the flight to move around the cabin taliing and flirting with several of the other male passengers. On a side note, after the meal service, the other empty first class seats filled up with coach passengers who were friends of fellow first class passengers.

The F/A should be written up.

Why does this never happen on my flights?

Since I wasn't there, I can't judge the decision of the FA to move the first passenger forward. Back in the days before FlyerTalk, when I used to fly in coach, I was moved forward on several occasions. Once I was moved up because the person next to me was too fat to fit in her seat and needed part of mine. I was once moved when the person sitting next to me was wearing a perfume to which I was having an allergic reaction. I asked to be booked on a later flight, and they moved me to first instead. I have been moved to first without knowing why, but assumed that the FAs knew what they were doing.

Letting the rest of the folks move forward on their own doesn't seem right. I can't recall ever seeing that happen.

Hmmm... a NW F/A on the NW board said they could be fired for moving pax up! I've had gate agents move me up on occasion, for operational reasons or in a couple of cases just to be nice.

When I fly in coach and am seated next to a very large person, someone who is bathed in perfum or has a bad breath/gas proglem, I have never been ushered up to First Class---next time I will have to remember to complain about it.

I didn't complain. I simply asked to get off the plane and be booked on a later flight.

There was no possible way that the fat woman would have fit in the seat with the arm rest down and no possible way that I would have consented to raising it up.

No airline wants a passenger to have an allergic reaction on a flight. When I realize that I am going to have difficulty breathing when I approached my seat, I don't even bother to sit down, but instead immediately start to get off the plane.
