One good thing to remember is that AS allows mileage on their web specials. They are also quite lenient when it comes to routings.
This Saturday I am doing ANC-JNU (Juneau) - SEA - ANC for a total of $109 including all taxes. That works out to 5830 miles or less than 2 cents a mile for status miles!
I thought that was pretty swell for being ANC based.
Just check http://www.alaskaair.com daily. They add unannounced web specials all the time. Watch for specials in and out of ANC and try to add JNU-SEA in the routing.
I hope that helps some. . .

Some of AS' partners such as NWA are also good options to consider. The only down side with NWA is that you can not earn miles on their cybersaver fares. Although, I've never tried it using my AS #.
With NWA you get status miles on AS that count towards MVP/MVP Gold. I've seen low fares to Florida in the summer and midwest cities during fall and winter.
Toadman makes a good point here. I did a mileage run SEA-TPA in December on NWA using my AS number. The beauty of it was the Q actual miles, the 50% Q bonus miles for using 1C upgrades issued by AS, the 100% Gold bonus miles, and the 10K threshhold bonus I earned. Not bad for a night's work and $198 fare. I usually look to NWA for mileage runs since it is so much easier to find the longer flights.
If you are doing segment(s) in Canada, 6J (Roots Air) is now in play for MHD. Either way NW is IMO a good option as the connector... wonder if this would work with AA?
Actually, you could make MVP with one trans-con NWA or AA flight if you could figure out a way to upgrade. I keep a stash of NWA miles just for this purpose.
