I'm probably one of very few people who enjoys flying on the passenger -400s. The older-style seats - in both coach and in first - feel far more comfortable to me than do the Recaro torture devices that are on all of the -800s and -900s.
Yes, some people complain about lack of power-ports, but I see the extra underseat storage as a nice advantage - plus I always carry my Anker external power supply, so my devices always stay charged.
Over the past few weeks I've flown N760AS a couple of times between ANC and SEA, and over the past year I've been on N703AS, N705AS, N706AS, N713AS, N778AS, N791AS, N792AS, N793AS, N797AS, and N799AS on various routes.
I sincerely will miss the -400s where they're gone - but not those combis. This lady does *not* like the stairs and the walk across the tarmac - 25 to 30 years ago it was fine, but not now.

While researching future flights for my Alaska vacation, I came across AS flight 106 ANC-SEA for September 9, 2017. This flight is still assigned the 737-400 Combi.
I'm tempted to pull the trigger on this one as it will surely be my last time riding this old classic but I also wonder if the fleet assignment between now and then will change.

This aircraft usually spends the day on a milk run through SE AK, and then heads back up nonstop to ANC to start the next day. Keep in mind no wifi on this aircraft if that matters to you. It is a fun experience though for sure.

ANC - OTZ (AS157 and AS 154) is still a combi on the morning flight. Our evening flight (AS153 ANC-OTZ-OME-ANC) is still normally a 734 or occasional combi although they are working into the schedule a 738 with the last 4 rows blocked (as I experienced on 2/19)

So, on the combi I took row 26. For some reason, Y in the combi felt like it has a bit more room than on the NG 737-800/900s. Does this have to do with payload maximizing on the plane? (IE - Alaska couldn't keep the normal # of rows due to CG issues?)
