15 hours transit on Hainan vs 33 hours on AA.

AA hit or (mostly) miss service vs Hainan.

I would gladly spend the $153 extra. To each their own of course.

Except those served only by Dragonair instead of CX mainline - which includes most (all?) of mainland China other than PEK/PVG. The addition of HU for the rest of the country complements it nicely.

And it certainly never hurts to have another choice for those ever-scarce TPAC J seats.

AA also is 55K miles to China in business class, 5K mile premium.

True, which is a major annoyance with respect to AS (AA can book KA).

Yes, as I said before HU is good for mainland China. Not for much else.

Spend more money for LESS time in confirmed J? Uh, not me....if I'm in confirmed J and have lounge access, my journey can be just as much fun as the destination

If the difference is really 15 and 33 hours, and the seats/food/overall experience are otherwise comparable, then YES absolutely its worth paying that much extra to get there in less than half the time. For me, anyway. All about what one values the most. As great as F/J is, and as pleasant as a lounge can be, it all wears off well before 30 hours for me. The appeal of the food and drinks, especially.

Booked PEK-SJC roundtrip on J for my parents. AS can't reserve seats. Called HU Chinese line and they said that they can't reserve seats either. Will try US hotline tomorrow, but I won't hold my breath on it. Yay typical Chinese carrier IT system

Also, anyone know whether award J eligible for limo service?

I'm sure CX would consider adding KA to AS redemptions. But I'm rather confident award charts would be revised .

Glad this is available, despite the YQ.

I'm seeing $333 in taxes + fuel surcharges for BKK-PEK-West Coast one way. Ouch.

I can't seem to pull a connecting flight to Maui online as you can with Emirates.

some more digging:

SJC-PEK: $177 (n/s or via SEA)
PEK-SJC: $237

SJC-PEK-BKK: $268 ($277 SJC-SEA-PEK-BKK)
BKK-PEK-SJC: $333

30K r/t for an intra China is kinda hefty...another 5K premium over UA/CX(KA)

But cheaper than Aeroplan I guess..

That possibility does not appear on the award charts and I haven't seen anything similar on other partners that suggests it's likely, so I'll go with 'probably not'
