Icelandair returns as a Mileage Plan Partner

Logged in tonight in order to check on something and was pleasantly surprised to see an announcement that Icelandair was back as a Mileage Plan Partner--complete with access to the Saga Lounge for Gold and Gold 75Ks--with "more elite benefits to come in 2016."

There's also a Double Miles offer for Icelandair Flights between October 1 and December 15.

Quite pleased. Nice to see them back!

A friend sent me an alert ^

Seems there's some concessions after the last go-around . Glad to have some perks offered ^

Does this mean that Iceland Air bowed to AS?

Hail Mary and thank you Baby Jesus!

Now waiting for details to see if cheapie fares are logged at 100% RDM or something lesser. KEF is a better transfer than AAnother option at ORD, DFW or JFK.

Its posted online with a tiered earning rate like most partners (aside from AA).

Excellent!! Any ANC-based fliers should be doing backflips at this news.

Yep. I saw that. I suppose hoping for 100% RDM on all fares was about as likely as finding a unicorn flying over the rainbow to kill the leprechaun and steal the pot of gold.

However, the 25% accrual seemed unnecessarily cruel. (N,U,P fares)

Any guesses what the award redemption rates will be? I'll probably need to wait until Alaska posts them on their award chart page.

Icelandair also offers customers the option of taking an Icelandair Stopover for up to seven nights at no additional airfare, so you get two destinations for the price of one.

If it helps, I couldn't get the Icelandair site to price anything out in N, U, or P at the moment. The lowest fare offered to me was in the 50% bracket. Hopefully I continue to not have to worry about N, U, or P fares.

Over the past couple years I've accumalated about 30k Iceland Saga Points - with this partnership, does it mean I can use those points for flights on Alaska also? I know they had a partnership in the past - did they allow such flight bookings previously?
