I suspect this is more down to the popularity of DCA (expensive ticket vs. connections on AA/DL, upgrades impossible) and lack of additional DCA slots than any inherent attractiveness of Dulles. I'm happy to have the AS option though, especially if the tariff is cheaper than DCA.

if SEA <--> IAD is a CR7 they are going to have to stop in MSP to refuel in both directions ... and even then MSP-SEA is marginal

no surprise here, it's the same as DCA (at least for the first week or two)

No, SEA - LGB was all CRJ-700s.

This will probably be on a 739ER since IAD has the runway for it.

Will hope for sales as I would think the market for SEA-IAD would be about 30% people headed for Reston / Chantilly / Tysons and want IAD... 70% people headed for DC, etc. who are settling for IAD.

Probably a placeholder for now. SEA - IAD is about 200 miles less than SEA - BOS, which regularly has a 739ER. IAD can certainly support the capacity.

Well its only been a decade or so?

Welcome back AS.

When is the metro supposed to open? And can AS partner with LH for lounge access

SEA-RDU hopeful here...

Another thought- UA ran this route too, but is trimming its service back. Thought it would be too tempting for AS...

The Silver Line won't make it all the way to IAD's doorstep for another 4 or 5 years. They are starting work on the concrete stanchions now. In current state the Metro reaches as far as Wiehle Avenue / Reston, and then you get a $5 bus from there which runs on 30-minute headways. It's still a pain in the neck getting out there, and the C/D gates at Dulles are terrible -- though who knows where AS will gate there? Maybe the close-in Z gates.

Here's an interesting write-up on the "decrepit" / ignored state of Dulles while DCA is in line for a $1 billion expansion project.
