The big issue is not the mileage bumps.

Rather, they have now slapped on change and cancellation fees for the old Saver and Standard awards. Only Full Flex is now exempt.

I am assuming that MVPG & 75K will be exempt from fees on Award tickets; it would be nice to see that in writing somewhere.

I thought its always been that way only full flex was refundable for everyone without change fee

The change fee chart eff for bookings on or after 10/30/13 has no fee for changes/cancellations made at least 60 days in advance for everyone, and no change fees for Gold or 75K at any time

Change fees and cancellation fees never applied to Award tickets, that is why they are now explicitly putting that language in the amended Award Charts.

I think you may be mistaken.

From an award booked several months ago:

•Changes to this itinerary are subject to additional fare and taxes. A fee of $75 USD per person will also be assessed for changes/cancellations made at alaskaair.com, or $100 USD fee for changes made with an Alaska Airlines agent. Change fees are waived for all MVP® Gold members.

And then again under award rules: •Change and cancellation fees are waived for MVP Gold travelers.

I'm not sure where you got that impression, because it's not accurate.

Full Flex, now known as Refundable Coach/First are exempt from change/cancellation fees, but Saver/Choice have definitely had change/cancellation penalties for quite a long time.

An old thread from 2009 also confirms mention of standard change fees applying to awards

Wow. That's impressive that AS is *decreasing* a category ^

I imagine we dropped it because the AA level to Mexico was lower than our own.

This is a pretty minor devaluation.

As far as change fees go, Saver and Choice awards have always been subject to a change fee. Full Flex awards have no change fees. Change fees for MVPG/75K has always been waived, INCLUDING awards booked for others using Gold miles. As long as that's the case, I'm still OK.

Agreed. I expect this to have zero impact on my travel patterns.
