Lightning strikes AS 66
Getting reports that today's AS 66 was hit by lightning ex-ANC and made it to CDV, where the rest of the itinerary was canceled and AS put pax up for the night at the Reluctant Fisherman.
The lightning reportedly hit right in front of the pilots, putting two small holes in the skin of the plane.
Glad everyone's okay!
UPDATE: Actually, 66 was the second hit of the day. 65 got hit earlier.
From the Juneau Empire: http://juneauempire.com/local/2016-1...ruck-lightning
Two Alaska Airlines flights in Southeast Alaska were struck by lightning Monday in separate incidents, leaving some passengers stranded and others delayed.
The first strike took place near Sitka as Flight 65, the morning milk run through Southeast Alaska, prepared to land at Sitka.
But 65 is not scheduled into SIT .... the article says it was en route from JNU to SIT. 65 is a northbound flight SEA-KTN-WRG-PSG-JNU-ANC. The truth is out there somewhere!

Seems this area has this type of WX on occasion...

Welcome to the "struck by lightning on AS" club ^
Thanks for the welcome, beckoa. I missed out on the NYE fireworks so the lightening *flash-bang-shudder* sort of made up for it.
Good news: They were able to eventually swap out another aircraft for us.
Bad news: They switched to a combi, meaning I was downgraded from 2A to 22A, from chardonnay to OJ.
The *only* reason I had booked the milk run in the first place was because #62 was too early in the day and I wanted to avoid #64 (the combi). The evening flight (#70) doesn't run on Saturday. So I decided that first class on the afternoon puddle-jumper was preferable to tarmac boarding, multiple sets of stairs and a coach seat on the combi.
Little did I know I'd end up with the worst of both worlds ... the milk-run via combi.
That might have been fine 25 years ago when I was a bit younger and a tad more spry, but I'm getting too old for things like this.

Thanks for bringing up that previous conversation, beckoa!
I was on AS #66 milkrun back on 1/2/16 when we were hit by lightning on our approach into CDV from ANC. I was seated in 2A when the bolt hit on the left-hand side, just forward of the first class cabin.
We circled for a bit before returing to Anchorage where we eventually were re-accommodated on a combi. If there's anything I like less than doing the milkrun (ANC-CDV-YAK-JNU), it's losing my upgrade *and* having to do the milkrun in a combi ...

ADN did the story a little better, but JE informed us of the exact hotel (Reluctant Fisherman Inn).
