Central System Outage - Affecting Flights 3/26/11 - update 4:24pm
An outage early this morning has affected the airline's central computer systems.
All East Coast and Mexico departures have been delayed by 2 ours and rolling delays are expected throughout the network today.
Several flights have been cancelled. If you are traveling today, please check flight status before leaving for the airport. Flight status at as.com is working again as of about 10 minutes ago.
Pets and Unaccompanied Minors are only being accepted for non-stop travel.
A waiver is in effect if you would like to change or cancel a flight you have booked for today.

flight status is working intermittently, so you may have to try it a couple times before it shows up. Or call reservations. They can give you accurate flight status.

Flight status is down and when my daughter tried to call the main number to check on her flight to HNL she keeps getting disconnected. Must be overloaded.
Gold line definitely helped, but still a bit longer wait than normal.

We are scheduled to leave ORD for PDX on 683. It is indefinitely delayed, spoke to very nice agent at AS and she stated 686 has to arrive at ORD, but has yet to depart its west coast destination.
Keeping our fingers crossed as we have a PDX-OGG tomorrow morning and today's 683 is the only flight that can get us to PDX on time......
did they really have to use the word crash? Tacky.
I doubt it was malicious.
Computer crash is well known language that resonates and gets the point across.
As someone who is affected by this cluster - I appreciate that the Times has even put out the article. The information that the newspaper is more than any of us are getting from Alaska airlines directly.
What is really sad is the statement that they are letting people rebook at "no charge" - hum you think???

it is complete chaos at the airport. seems like more than a few flights canceled. i think virtually every flight to la has been scrubbed, including mine. there were literally hundreds in line at customer service inside security and after i went back outside security the line there was even longer. i couldnt reach alaska on the phone despite holding for 45 minutes. i eventually called AA EXP desk as i had booked the LAX-SEA-LAX thru aa.com. they could nothing to rebook on until sunday evening at 7pm - a day and a half after my flight. i eventually used the airport wifi to check united and virgin. tehre was a single first class seat on virgin for this evenings flight so i just grabbed that.
AS terminal is a complete zoo.

What more would you have them do? No company, airlines included, can force their off-duty customer service employees, be they face-to-face (airport counter) or call-center (reservations) agents to work overtime on such short notice. I'm sure calls have gone out to request off-duty employees to help out, but when such a major disruption of operations happens you really just need to be patient and let them handle restoring things to normal.

What is your basis for this statement? Were you asked to pay a higher fare as a result of this disruption? I'm sure AS is not asking passengers to pay additional fare to re-accommodate them as a result of this computer "crash."
As a side note I was significantly delayed once as a result of system-wide computer issues. The main reason was that weight and balance calculations had to be made manually for each flight during the outage. I would rather be delayed and have them make double- if not triple-sure their calculations were correct than have them rush the process only to be forced to make a fuel stop en-route...or worse.

Got wine?
or Vodka in a fancy red bottom bottle?
Hang in there. I expect it's a long day already.
