The OP's link to the original article is no longer active, so I wasn't able to read it. Just tried searching AirTrans website and came up with a flight from IAD - ACY, but it had two connections. One in Orlando and the other in Atlanta. It was 1800 miles OW compared to around 200mi to drive.

FL has two flights a day from ATL to ACY -
FL 962 - Lv ATL 10:30 am Ar ACY 12:18 pm
FL 964 - Lv ATL 4:55 pm Ar ACY 6:43 pm
I don't know the issues of CLT airspace and terminals vs. BWI's...I'm thinking CLT's is more limited, but assuming AirTran getting another flight out of BWI isn't an issue, what if there was an ACY-BWI-CLT route, so that one could get alternately rom the Philadelphia area to CLT?
how do you see CLT is more limited? BWI has IAD and DCA to deal with, which are much more congested then GSO or GSP.
also, i just don't believe the demand is there for many ACY flights.

Most of your demand for ACY is going to be with traffic within the Northeast. You may see some fringe traffic from the Southeast and the Midwest. But, a vast majority of your traffic is going to be from NC-North within the Eastern Time Zone. Remember, this is AC and not Vegas.

Looks like the airport authority is hankering for Chicago nonstop service as well.
I don't know about Chicago however. Atlanta already connects ACY to most points West or South now.
And routes to Chicago: Southwest is already running a number of flights daily from PHL-MDW at < $200 roundtrip fares (if booked in advance, weekday). Since Southwest likely has little interest in ACY because of its distance to PHL and BWI, SJTA should consider attracting airlines with routes Southwest doesn't fly to from the area. CLT, even though its smaller than Chicago, for that reason.
I can't comment on demand, but at the prices, WestJet to Toronto looks to be a bargain.
USAirways from PHL to Toronto Nov.2 - Nov. 4, > $400 USD.
WestJet ACY to Toronto, Nov.2 - Nov.4 < $250.00 USD
If you want to fly to ACY on FL from any other destination, you need to connect with one of the above flights from/to ATL.
I don't know the frequency, but FL is showing some non-stops: ACY-MCO in September that I looked at, looks like they may be going after some of NK's market(s)

If FL can fly ACY-ATL, and have their operation in PHL running PHL-ATL, I don't understand why US doesn't jump into ACY with Dash 8's to PHL (like they do from ABE), and maybe one RJ to CLT. The only way I think Chicago will be seen is if it is UA or AA running RJ's, but I really doubt they have an interest in ACY (unfortunatley)

As a former casino guy, I can't begin to tell you how many Ohio driver's licenses I used to see at the front desk, concierge desk, and on the casino floor. CLE-ACY on a CO ERJ would make a killing if the airlines could convince the gaming populace that flying is better than taking a bus, as many of them do now.
ACY-MCO on FL has some great departure times from ACY, and the ACY-YYZ service is great except for that it's horribly timed. I'm a huge Devils fan, and would consider a cheap flight to YYZ to see the Devils and Leafs play, but with the WestJet flight timing I would have to stay two nights.

Disagree only slightly. WN has PHL-MDW, and ACY sees PHL as the competition. One or two ACY-MDW flights would be a very interesting test case for WN. Send the plane up from BWI and make ACY the intermediate stop.
I found WestJet one-night stays in YYZ in November at $64 each way.
I very much hope that WestJet uses their small equipment for ACY...it's a nice chance for FlightMemory line and dot geeks like me to snag a 737-600 ride.
ETA: BWI-ACY-CMH would be a cash cow on the weekends.

i know, i've been to AC. and living in jersey, i can see how airlines don't see the market to go into ACY.
