Interline Baggage Transfer

I am planning to fly AirTran to ATL from CHS in March. I will then leave ATL for LGW on British Airways. Will AirTran transfer our luggage to BA?
Thanks for any help, Tom

AirTran is well known NOT to interline with several airlines.

As for BA, you would have to check with them.

Even if they say they do, I wouldn't trust them to actually do it. Safer to leave yourself enough time to pick up your bags and recheck them.

Thanks for the responses. I will just pick them up and take them to BA.

Smart move, if it's anything involving another airline, AirTran can't seem to get it right at times.

I used F9 to AirTran on a freebie using F9 miles. Didn't see my luggage for 3 days. Recheck your stuff! No, I didn't even get a shaving kit! Goodtime? no..

Airtran would not just "say they are going to do it". Your final destination city will be on your bag tag, but you must advise the agent when checking in as to what airline you are connecting on and see if their is an agreement. So many people assume thir bag will follow them, but Airtran can only see your final destination on Airtran, they have no way of knowing you are connecting unless you tell them.

That can and does happen on EVERY airline, transfer or no transfer. Airtran is No 1 in the industry for baggage, and has been for the last few years.

F9 to Airtran means F9 did not transfer your bag, not Airtran.

This is old (it lists a couple of airlines that don't exist anymore), but BA was one of the interline airlines listed:

"ATA, British Airways, Frontier Airlines, Icelandair, Midwest Airlines, United Airlines, and US Airways"
