You guys are barking up the wrong tree. I would be looking at how the bonuses come out.
When the lowest wage employees decided to go to work at Airtran they knew how much the CEO was paid. when bonus time comes that cold cut his pay more than 1/2.
The 6 month cut structure is more than fair. The officers are not only taking the largest percentage cut but by far the highest amount.
To be fair the cut should have been 10% across the board instead of 3 times the lowest worker, but with the prices of fuel at the pumps I think Airtran is doing the right thing buy limiting the lowest pay cut to only 5%.
Bonuses are another story.
Everyone has to look at if they are at right place of employment, including the CEO.

It has been a long time, but I don't recall checking to see how much the CEO was making, I was more concerned about what I would be making.

6 months is to start...I am sure more cuts are coming

Are you crazy? 10% across the board? That does not even come close to being fair. Airtran did it as fare as possible, and not many of us are complaining. We know the airlines are struggling and as much as we do not want a pay cut, we do not want to loose our jobs either.
At any rate, this "Airtran next" thread is over 90 days old.
And in that time period their stock has dropped to below $2. Investors are pricing this stock as a step above bankruptcy right now. That's not to say it's imminent, just one group's opinion.

Did you read the rest of my sentence?

David Barger, Jetblue CEO was on CNN last night. He is taking a 50% salary cut. Fornaro needs to do the same
It's the new name for Airtran.. Someone did the math and figured out that the "R" in AirTran added about 2.3Lbs of extra weight in paint to each aircraft. Not to mention the ink costs on all of the stationary, and -1 letter for newspaper ads.. I've heard speculation that they're also toying with the idea of eliminating the first A and the T as well, and are looking for a sponsorship deal with Mahmūd Ahmadinejād.

It is a brilliant marketing strategy. FL's marketing team decided that since the airline markets a "business class" that is not quite a real premium product and aimed mostly at people who want to pay $50 to sit up front and feel important (but could never sit in a real premium cabin on, say, an international 3 class plane), they would also rename themselves to appeal to people who like to feel intelligent and worldly by virtue of knowing how to spell, but actually can't.

Yes, but he is still making more than he did last year. If my search is correct he made 200k salary in 07 and 500k in 08 and the cut is for 50% on the second 1/2. So he will make 375k in salary in 08. This is a small total to bonuses ans stock options.
My point from my original post is stock options and bonuses can be considerably higher than salary.
Fuel prices are coming down, lets see how long these 6 month 5% to 15% cuts last for.
Back to original topic, I think with what the legacy carriers nickel and diming everything, Airtran's model should make it.
I think with oil prices going down and AAI Stock going up, AirTran is in a very good position to become profitable by the 4th Quarter of this year. That is if the downward trend on oil continues.
