I have to say only fly AirTran when there's no other alternative. The seat charges irritate me; and, I know other airlines have the same fees, but Southwest doesn't... AirTran charged me $75 to cancel an award booking. Southwest doesn't charge anything to make flight changes except the increase in the fare if there is an increase. And when you cancel an award flight, Southwest even refunds the $2.50/$5 September 11th Security Fee. I can't wait for the Southwest Management Team to kick some of the AirTran management team out on the street where I'm hope they will have trouble finding new jobs.

I completely disagree. I've flown 11 AirTran segments since March. The people are great. It's been easy to upgrade nearly ever time with modest surcharges or for free using A+ points. On reliability and customer service, AirTran currently blows United into the weeds. It will be a sad day when Southwest absorbs the last of AirTran. I have total respect for the AirTran management team.

My sis doesnt have status on Airtran and she is able to get most seats without a fee during the 24 hour checkin. Delta pretty much marks almost every decent seat as a preferred seat of some sort even if you wait till you check in at the airport kiosk.

I tend to think AirTran is a good airline. I have, knock on wood, never had a problem with them. Cheap upgrades, Student U, new planes, XM radio, good deals....

I'm just a frequent traveler who just had a bad experience with AirTran and vented. I called them because they didn't restore my credits when I cancelled the award flight. They didn't offer to waive the $75 change fee and they lost my business in the process. Such is life and I'm glad all your AirTran experiences have been good.

Just a gentle reminder: FlyerTalk does encourage different opinions, and the civil, mutually respectful exchange of same. It does not tolerate attacks on others, troll callouts or the like. Discuss the issue, not the poster(s).

Most members understand the TOS pretty well; those who post contrary to the TOS / Rules can expect their posts will be deleted.

I've yet to have a bad experience with Airtran A few times a year I'll need to make a last minute ATL trip and they're usually reasonably priced almost right up until departure. I've had consistently friendly service from gate agents and get this, unlike United which the OP mentions, you get free pretzels in Y on FL!

I forgot to ask this earlier, but does anyone here know if Air Tran or Jet Blue charge to check in my first bag?

What about Southwest? So JetBlue doesn't charge for the first bag on all of their flights right?
