I've been planning a trip from ATL to SFO for next February. However, now that I'm ready to book, the morning flight between ATL-SFO and the returning afternoon flight between SFO-ATL is no longer listed. The only flight between the two cities leaves ATL in the evening and is a red-eye returning from SFO. I've checked multiple dates and this seems to be the only flight between the ATL-SFO. Anyone know if this is a permanent cancelation or perhaps this is just a scheduling glitch that will correct in a few days? I called AirTran and they couldn't' tell me anything I hadn't already figured out.
What about connecting at MKE? I see that there is an afternoon flight SFO-MKE if that helps at all.
I checked that option. Unfortunately, there isn't an ATL-MKE flight early enough to connect to the MKE-SFO. Likewise, the SFO-MKE flight arrives about an hour after the last MKE-ATL flight has left. It's really rotten scheduling IMHO. It's pretty bizarre that MKE would offer better flight opportunities to the west coast than the hub in ATL.
Looking at the AirTran website, it looks like ATL-SFO daytime service ends on January 4th, putting me back on DL from there until April 6, when the website says AirTran day flights resume. On to Lexington!
February is low season for SFO, at least for leisure traffic. AirTran has reduced the schedule every year around that time for as long as I can remember (maybe for as long as they've been flying to SFO). I think in the summer it's usually up to 4 flights a day from ATL to SFO.
I flew FL to SFO last March and there was only one flight a day from ATL at that time, an evening flight.
Does DL still match FL's fares from ATL-SFO even at other times of the day?

I see FL is trying to compete with other airlines. FL is more focusing on MKE BWI and LGA.
