I will be landing in DEL on the 13th evening, so I'll be actually be around in the area that weekend. I need that AF flight to leave without much of a delay if I'm going to be back in office on monday morning

From my past experience the worst is now over. There has been no fog in the past 10 days or so now.

Isn't it dependent mostly on low temperatures?

If so, then February usually gets colder than January in BOM, don't know about DEL...

[OT]PS: TOI reported 9w systems completely down at airports yesterday - maybe that was the problem you were experiencing! [/OT]

I am not a weatherman but the saying here is that if there is a huge difference in the afternoon and night time temperature then you will get fog. This normally happens in December and Feb end. But Jan and most of Feb the temperature is more or less cold daytimes and night times. Hence no fog.

Maybe its a old wives tale but trust me it works. I have very rarely come across fog in Feb.

Yep I managed to book the ticket at 9pm last night. But the website is a lot smoother then it was last year.

Arrived into DEL on LH760 from FRA. Arrival was smooth and on time at 0130hrs on 14 January.

However, I am grounded by fog today. I was due to depart on EK to DXB at 0415 hrs, which is now delayed until 1300 hrs. I will be missing my connecting flight to ADD!

That's a heck of a long delay. It seems that EK holds the departure from DXB only when they feel fog might be a problem.
Earlier this month the same EK flight was delayed till 4am Dubai time while my 9W flight took off on time and landed with very light fog at 3am.

Did they tell you before hand or at the Airport? Were you given a hotel room?

Yesterday was actually quite bad. Almost no flights were able to land. Consequently, this morning the airport was absolute chaos. It was so bad that multiple flights operating from remote stands were boarding simultaneously from single gates. Our flight EK513 boarded through Gate 2, as was Jetlite. Whereas 9W and AI were boarding through Gate 1 for Singapore and Shanghai respectively.

I've never seen DEL so busy. It was B777 central, with the following on the ground: 3 x AI, 1 x 9W, 1 x AA, 1 x CO, 1 x SQ, 1 x TG, 1 x SV and our EK 772 x 1. Additionally, there were the following heavies 9W A332 x 2, AI 747 x 2, CX 333, CI 332, EK 332, AF 747, BA 747, RA 757, VS 340, MK 340. There were also assorted B737s , B727, A300 and A320s from 9W, Jetlite, AI/IC, Ariana on the international side.

Even when we took of 1.5 hours after our rescheduled time, visibility was barely 300m.

EK was good about informing me by phone almost 4 hours before I left for the airport and efficiently re-scheduled my limo pick-up. Since I was due to depart early in the morning, I was paying or the hotel anyway and didn't make a fuss. But I am now at DXB and have been provided a hotel at the airport.

I guess you must have got in and out succesfully without any "fog" delays.

Me, well for the first time in weeks there was fog & I got delayed by 4hrs for a 7.30am departure ex DEL on the 12th. The majority of the fog cleared by 9am but then we were way down the line and had to wait another 90 mins after boarding for Air traffic clearance.

Quite funny huh! I said there that is no fog in Feb and the only day there was fog I was due to travel.

I did get delayed on Friday the 13th. my GOI-DEL flight left 4 hours late, but I got to know about the delays before leaving for GOI airport when the IT website showed the inbound DEL-GOI flight delayed, so it wasn't so bad spending a few more hours in Goa.
