Hang on, previous threads have said the following & backed it up with press releases;

1st Intl. Route: Bangalore (BLR) - San Francisco (SFO) operated by A340-500
2nd US. Route: Bangalore (BLR) - New York (NYC) - Newark/JFK operated y A340-500

1st Routes outside USA: Bangalore (BLR)/Mumbai (BOM) - London/Heathrow (LHR) operated daily by A330-200s. Scheduled to start in the summer, although aircraft have since been contracted to Air India. When does this start?

Other announced routes:

Chennai (MAA) - San Francisco (SFO) presumeably A340-500
New Delhi (DEL) - New York (NYC) presumeably A340-500
Mumbai (BOM) - New York (NYC) presumeably A340-500

All flights non-stop.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's what IT have announced...

Calcutta is CCU. Chennai (aka Madras) is MAA. So which is it? I would love having a MAA-SFO nonstop, I think. Especially if these guys join an alliance of some sort .. they're heading straight for skyteam, so hope that gets done fast enough.

Calcutta-SFO makes ZERO sense

Do you have the times for the SFO-BLR etc. I hope they have good onward connections into other major cities - hope this flight gets into BLR sometime in the AM hours.

Sorry. I meant Chennai (MAA) - San Francisco (SFO). I've edited my original post to match.

The flight times between India & the west coast must be phenomenal, around 17 hours with a 11 1/2 hour time difference.

Both TG and SQ operate 345 ULH but the cost of fuel to carry fuel for the long stretch is horrendous. So don't expect any freebies on the IT ULH services unless they are ready to gift money (wait: they probably are...)

No problem with me - I *love* the SQ flights - too bad they are converting them into all biz-class!

18 hours is only a problem due to lack of connectivity - but you *do* have a satphone connection in the AVOD control...which comes at a price!

Exactly, at the present moment, with fuel prices being so high, it's a bad move to operate ULH's over to the US...unless they can price the seats to offset this...

With the dollar going steadily down in value? Might make a killing leveraging exchange rates. On the other hand, with oil prices spiking too ..

OTOH, IT might have saved a packet on the 345 frames, since Airbus is not able to sell them to anyone else. I wonder how much a 10-15% discount translates into additional working capital to finance the fuel bill.

How many does Airbus actually have, if they had some lying around??

What are the structural differences - does anyone know?

Airbus didn't have any lying around... the 345 is 10 1/2 ft longer than the 343 and has the same larger wing as the 346, giving a larger fuel tank: http://www.airliners.net/info/stats.main?id=28

JFK or EWR-MAA Nonstop ???

Does anyone know if any airline has any plans to fly from JFK-MAA nonstop OR EWR-MAA nonstop.

I flew from Continental EWR-DEL nonstop because I have family in Delhi, and it was amazing. However returning from MAA(I have family there too), I had to transfer in Delhi from Domestic to International and it sucked big time. I am better off sticking with Emirates, Jet Airways or Lufthansa if I ever decide to comeback from MAA. Transferring in Dubai, Brussels, or Frankfurt is easier than Delhi.

But does anyone know if any of the airlines such as Continental, Air India or Kingfisher, are planning to fly from JFK or EWR to MAA nonstop any time in the future. That would be heaven on Earth because I can avoid stopping in Europe, Middle East, Delhi, or Bombay.

Welcome to FT dogpack!

I think CO was talking about this, but need (more?) 772-LR's or something like this - you can search the CO forum for the details - I'm sure it's there...

How did you fly into DEL, btw? Were you in Y or C?

Let us know!

EQMs can also be earned with CO for IT flights.
