Quick comparison between Jet and Kingfisher
Am in India for vacation and flew both airlines in Y and Kingfisher in J. Here is my quick comparison:
In Economy Class:
Jet Airways (CCU-DEL) -- More room in coach, food is OK, service a bit mechanical and the consumer is more business oriented.
Kingfisher (PNQ-CCU) -- Consumer is more leisure oriented, packed like sardines in coach, food was good, and the service was AMAZING. The FA's are a sight for sore eyes with all of them being female !!!
Winner -- in terms of comfort -- JET
-- in terms of service -- Kingfisher
In First Class
Only flew Kingfisher (DEL-GOI) -- great seats, service, food and everything was akin to a long haul J product. The recline of the seats on the A320 are about the same as the old J seat on AA 767. I slept comfortably after the FULL meal was done which included salad/hot soup, Green Thai Curry, Rasmalai in Radbi for dessert and fresh coconut juice. After that they served coffee whcih I passed on and dozed off for approx 1 hr. We landed in BOM and then onward to GOI which they offered a hot meal with FULL service for a 1hr flight.
Some of the US airlines can learn from 9W and IT service !!! And price was approx the same as the USA flights since I was paying USD and I wanted my flight points credited on my card.
I was really impressed with the service and cannot wait till both airlines join an alliance for award tickets in J/F longhaul. As of Jan 2008, Jet will codeshare with AA in India for longhaul and domestic service. Maybe this will be a nod towards them entering ONEWORLD !!!!!

Jet is more professional and respects their FF'ers more than Kingfisher does, imo... (I'm IT Gold - comped from Jet Plat)
Btw, have you flown Jet in C/J? It might be worth comparing that to your IT C/J experience, and posting it here.

Just flew IT in J on the A321 BOM-GOI yesterday and they're better than 9W in J on that sector in terms of seats, IFE, ground experience, priority baggage and food (caveat: I'm comparing against flights I took on 9W last year). Will post a more detailed comparison after my return flight next week, but after great experiences on IT in both J and Y, I can't wait for them to start flying international. ^

Never flew Kingfisher J, but my single experience in Kingfisher Y really wasn't that great - I'm staying with Jet...

SuperFlyBoy had asked for a J - J comparison between IT and 9W. Wee, I had a chance to do it and here gloes:
9W J From PNR-BLR:
Ground -- service is way lower compared to IT. There is no one to help you with your bags at the curb, guide you to the first baggage screeening or help you to the check in counter like IT at both airports.
Small airport, so the restaurant doubles a lounge !!! Free drink and snack, though. Upon security check call, no 9W employee to escort you thru security and help you with your bags. IT employee comes and carries your bags all the way till the PLANE !!!
Bus to the plane -- no separation between J and Y passengers. When the bus drops you off, you have to wait in line behind 100 Y pax getting on the plane from the front door thru the staircase. I even went to the front of the line and showed my boarding pass and nothing happened. The guy looked at me as if thee was no way to help the mad rush of everyone trying to get on the plane.
IT controls this well. J class pax have their own bus and when they drop you off, there is no line and you walk straight up the staircase with your helper in tow who then loads the bag into the overhead bin !!^^
My overall feeling is:
1) 9W has established themselves in India and still have a huge market share so they are following their game plan.
2) IT is jus doing this to attract all the premium pax from 9W, and they are doing a hell of a job. But let us see how long this will last.
One postive from 9W -- since I was in J and on my way back to the States, I had 2 huge bags each weighing approx 88lbs each and 1 small box. This is was way over the limit, but since I was an intl connecting pax in F on SQ, they let it slide. This is not the case with Y ticketed pax.
Overall winner in Y -- 9W with the increased room between the seats for tall guys.
Overall winner in J -- IT for now.
Now to do a J/F longhaul as soon as either airline picks a freaking alliance so that I can burn some miles theu one of the USA based carriers. But once these carriers eter the INTL marketplace, the USA based carriers will really have to get in gear to keep up with them. Both of these carriers can compete with the likes of SQ/CX on the long haul routes !!!
