Shorthaul seat reservation: first rows
I am curretnly Silver with AB, allowing me to make a seat reservation (flying mostly in Germany) at booking online.
However, whenever I am booking it seems rows 1 - 7 seem to be booked, presumably blocked. Mostly I end up in row 8.
I think I have read that for Gold customers, rows 1 and 2 are reserved but I cannot figure why 7 rows remain unavailable.
Is it just me or is there a pattern?
Thanks for any idea.

My experience is that their web site only recognizes their own status customers, and you'd need to call them to process seat blocked-for-elite seat assignments for OW equivalents.
I've sat in row 1 before on AB 319 and 320 flights as AA PLT (OW Sapphire, same as your BA Silver) after calling them and giving them my AA FF details.
