LH-Lounge needs *A Status and Boarding Pass.
Food options are not that good.
IIRC the lounges have no showers (the BA Lounge has no restrooms!).
If your mum has a long layover in TXL I strongly suggest to leave the airport! It is very close to the city!
She may go shopping, do a bit of sightseeing in a few hours!
Taxi costs about 20 Euro oneway to the city. (Brandenburg Gate or Ku'Damm),
There are Airport Busses - day ticket costs 6-7 Euro.
Plenty of nice Restaurants, Bars Cafes, sights to see.
Otherwise consider an airport Restaurant.
If she really has a long layover a day room in the Mercure Airport Hotel (2 Minutes drive, free shuttle) could be an other option.
All Lounges in TXL are worn out and far from exclusive. If you have status - use them - if not you wont't miss much.

IIRC you can enter the BerinAirportClub paying cash (I do not remember the prices, but expect something between 20 to 30 Euro).

Thank you so much for all the information! ORD - TXL is business class, but TXL - European city is regular as they do not have business class at all. One helpful flyertalk member pointed me to a free lounge (Air France) and I am hoping she will not have issues attending the lounge.
On the way back the layover is > 16 hours, so unless I change the ticket, she will need a hotel. Thanks again!

16 Hours is great to explore the city. There are plenty of good hotel deals if you book in advance. I would suggest a hotel in the centre - where she can explore a bit and relax.

is there any lounge at TXL for business pax arriving from ORD on AB at 7 am and holding onward connecting business class boarding card?
(no OW status or priority pass - just AB business class for both inbound and outbound on same day)
TIA

Flight to AYT seems to depart at Module C.
So it should be the airberlin Lounge.
I only know the Hugo Junkers Lounge in Module B - which is quite nice.
You should have access to that as well.

If you open the door to the bathrooms, then open the very first unlabeled door on your left, you will find a shower. No towels oranything (maybe you have to ask) but I have used it.
