So about two business class roundtrips credited to AB = one roundtrip upgrade to business class from a paid economy class ticket?
gives u an upgrade for a one way ticket.
Abt. twice a year AB has a double miles promotion, that really pays off.
Yes, last Y-Ticket I bought was abt $700 (RT), then used miles to upgrade. No complaints about availability on AB awards.

Even more attractive for me is to collect to Asia and spend to US. (upgrade OW TXL to LAX/SFO costs 25.000 Miles )

Data Point: I just used 180k AA miles to get six one way flights from Venice to Minneapolis on AirBerlin (VCE-BER and BER-ORD) and AA (ORD-MSP). The taxes an charges were $59/person (plus a darn $25/person for using the phone agent). Anyways, on AirBerlin it said that the taxes were going to be $268/person, so the answer for us was no, we did not have to pay the airberlin fuel surcharges. Yay!

Yes. There is no other way -- other than more expensive phyiscal ticketing offices/contract agency offices -- to use AA miles for Air Berlin flights for the cost presented. [AA.com doesn't allow for AB in its online award searches.]

30k AA miles and less than $85 for many a one-way AB-AB-AA itinerary in economy class between Europe and the Continental US.

Yes, I had to use an agent. Like I said, they charged me $150 to use the agent, but there is no other way. Overall, I'm very happy at getting 6 award tix together for $510! No complaints here :-) Me gusta Airberlin on AA!
