Question with connecting in AKL (LAX-AKL-MEL)

If traveling from LAX to MEL via AKL, is it required to go through customs and immigration? I was just wondering becase as I look at flight options from LAX-MEL, I see that NZ01 arrives into AKL from LAX at 6:15 am, and NZ07 departs at 7:40 am to MEL. I was wondering, is 1 hr 25. min sufficient time? Thank you.

You should stay in the transit area and you don't have to go through customs and immigration.

AKL is not a big airport, therefore the transit time is ok.

No immigration or customs unless your bags are tagged through only as far as AKL. If on a single ticket they should be through checked. If on 2 tickets then show the onward ticket at check in to get them through checked.

You will need to clear security at AKL though - so no liquids more than 100ml. Get your duty free drinks upstairs in Auckland (after security) or on arrival in Melbourne.

If you want to further reduce the risk of misconnecting, fly from SFO instead of LAX. It is the same aircraft that does SFO-AKL-MEL.

why do the kiwis see the need to take my bottle of rum i bought in sydney? im a novice and should have done my research, obv, but come on.

The thing is, the sydney duty free asked me my flights, and then sold me the bottle anyway. I'm calling my consulate....

It has nothing to do with New Zealand.

"International security practice" is to re-screen pax at transit points, which means confiscating liquids.

[although I noticed at ICN they didn't seem to care - also no laptops out!]

Well at least you didn't loose Dole pineapple desert sauce, pineapple topping & pineapple fruit when leaving Hawaii

Must remember not to pack bags in a drunken state the night before (and forgetting the carry on rules), while getting over a bad case of sunburn

At least the TSA agent in Hawaii was relatively nice about it

fair dinkum,

but the bloke in sydney who sold me the rum after reviewing my flights, passport and travel plans should be sacked and then smacked. He charged me $.50 extra for the "security bag"
