WLG priority checked bags

I almost never check a bag but my last two BOS-WLG trips I've needed to. I noticed that both times it took quite awhile for my checked-in bag to show up on the conveyer belt, despite having an orange priority tag on it. The first 20-30 bags were about 1/2 priority and 1/2 not. Is this service just not offered at WLG, or is something going wrong?

Priority baggage tags are only to make some passengers feel important.
WLG is small airport usually served by small aircraft. All bags will be thrown in the hold together. No ULD's on B737

I don't particularly care about feeling important, but saving 10-15 min of waiting for a bag is nice. They always come out first on UA flights arriving BOS, even on small aircraft like B737. But I guess this isn't offered at WLG, then.

Air NZ use A320s and all bags are in ULD's. Priority bags are kept separate in these.

Both times have been on AKL-WLG, on A320s ... so the priority bags should, in fact, be showing up first on arrival at WLG? It's a fairly minor thing but I wonder if anyone at Air NZ knows that this is an issue.

Are you rechecking your bag at International or walking across to Domestic?

Walking across — is there a spot in the international terminal to drop a bag?

At AKL:- yes. On the right as you exit immigration. But they have a time limit on your connecting flight. Otherwise you must walk the line to domestic with your bags. Or take the (slower) bus.

Oh, interesting, I've never noticed that. Would that make it more likely for the priority tag to be recognized?

Yes, not a designated spot but you use the same international kiosks and drop off bags at the same international bag drop area. Bags are only accepted if your departure time is more than 1 hour.
