Status renewal and validity

Hi there,

Hopefully an easy topic for you lot, but I just want to see if I have a good understanding around status validity.

I qualified for Gold in the middle of April this year and understand that I need to accrue 810 points to retain Gold before the middle of April 2018. Although, I would have Gold benefits until the end of April 2018 (even if I didn't accrue enough points by mid-April) - is this correct?

Also, if I accrue 810 points, say in October this year, do I then have Gold until the end of October 2018? Or do I get a further 12 months after the 'lapse' of the first qualification year (i.e. until April 2019)?

Thanks in advance for your wisdom

If you qualified for gold in mid-April officially your gold status (although shows immediately on the app) starts in May, so you should retain your gold benefits until end of May 2018.

If you accumulate 810 points by October, it will secure your gold status until May 2019 - unless you earn 1,500 points in a 12 month period and at that date you will become Elite.

Hmm, I'm a little confused. My Gold card has a printed expiry date of 04/2018. Are you sure about status starting in the month after qualification?

My understanding is that expiry is the end of qualification month following year. My qualification month is October - I've already re qualified and app shows that I have status until 31 October 2018.

Thanks for the replies so far.

So if you're both telling me that re-qualification gives you status for one further qualification year, which points qualify towards re-qualification for the next qualification year? I assume only the points earned within the preceding qualification year?

e.g.
- qualify in April 2017 (qualification month is in April)
- earn 810 points by October 2017 --> Gold kept until April 2019
- earn a further 810 points between April 2018 and April 2019 to keep gold until April 2010 (i.e. points earned between Oct 2017 and April 2018 won't go towards re-qualification for the third year)

I can only advise on my personal experience.

I'm currently gold, my qualification date for gold 26 September. I achieved my 810 points last month, now my app states I will retain gold until 31 October 2018.

So I ended up calling Air NZ because I wanted to be doubly sure, but basically how I outlined it above is pretty much indeed the case.

The date on which you qualify for status starts the timer on your qualification year, and as long as you earn the point requirement within the qualification year, your status is extended a further qualification year.

If you qualify for the next status up (to GE in this example), then the next status takes effect within 7 days and with it a 'new' qualification date for that new status tier.

You're nearly correct Jedesco but you have the years wrong. If you qualified for gold in April 2017, that covers you until April 2018. You need to earn 810 points between April 2017 and April 2018 to be renewed as gold for the year ending April 2019. And so on.

Hope this helps.
