AKL-LAX NZ PE or J on on other options

I'm planning an trip to LA in mid 2015, personal (so sadly not payed by work).

Looking at price options, it would be NZ PE or J on an other airline via SYD. While I'd love to go NZ J, since I'm paying for the trip my self can't really justify $10,000 on an J ticket on NZ.

Would you rather stick to NZ in PE, or look at other options. I'm starting to think I'd be better off on VA/DL booked on NZ ex AKL.

Personally I find PE on the 773 really good, also the timings of the flights are also excellent in both directions.

Food/Wine and IFE are all excellent on the 773 also, I would take PE ex AKL.

How sleep-able are the 77W seats? I've only had them on the Tasman so far, so haven't had an chance to sleep in one yet.

I hate the SpaceSeat for sleep. Others like it.

I always think these threads are funny, comparing a lower class with a higher class. The answer's pretty obvious IMO. PE won't stack up.

Would depend on price. While I really like the spaceseat if they're basically the same price I'd always go J over NZ Premium Economy (unless it was Jetstar J).

If it's your own money and quite a bit cheaper then the spaceseat is a good option.

I'm not comparing NZ PE to NZ J

Depends really, not always the case when you take all the elements into considerations.

example.

NZ PE - approx $4500 return

- Decent Food & Drink
- Direct 12hour flight
- Reasonable Seat, just not lie flat.

DL J - Approx $4800 return

- 3hour Tasman Flight, in pretty average J
- 2hours in SYD
- 14hours in lie flat J
- Service/Food/Drink Average.

If you look at it on the time factor NZ PE, pretty much is the winning factor only taking 12hours. Where as on DL, it would take around 19-20hours before I reached LAX. So it comes down is DL's product really that much better (or wross) that you would be better of to add 8 hours traveling time or just live it up in NZ PE

On those prices and if I wasn't in a rush I'd go for DL, but that'd purely be just to try it out (I haven't done DL international long haul), so I'm probably not much help! But the lie-flat would be a factor too. And maybe the miles

Unless time is of the essence, you nicely summarised why J is the best option. "Living it up" and PE don't belong in the same sentence.

Yeah at those prices Business would be the way to go if time isn't a problem. I have slept well in the spaceseat but I know others have posted mixed reviews.

DL or airnz

Choosing DL over Airnz would give a lot more SP if credited to velocity (I assume DL is delta)
