Can I upgrade from economy to premium economy using points?

Hi. I am looking at flying with AirNZ and want to check if I can use points (either from AirNZ or from another Star Alliance carrier) to upgrade from economy to premium economy?

The flights I am considering are a mix of AirNZ metal and Virgin/BA (LHR to Tokyo), but booked through AirNZ UK website.

When I price up a booking I get the option to pay for an upgrade - but would rather use points. I have found details about upgrading from economy to business, but not to premium economy.

Any help much appreciated. Thanks

Assuming you're not Gold Elite, no.

Only way to upgrade with APD is using a OneUp.

Not Gold Elite.

I am *A Gold with another program - but I can't seem to find any redemption options to use those points for Premium Economy? I can find options that indicate I could do economy > business (but haven't checked availability yet).

If your option is to upgrade from Y to J, then you must be on a 763 from NRT, which doesn't have PE.

If you are not a NZ Elite member, the only way to upgrade from Economy to Premium Economy is by using their auction style Oneup. The more you bid the greater your chances. This can be paid by either Airpoints or credit card.

If you wish to use miles from another *A programme, you can only apply to upgrade to Business under Star Alliance Upgrade Awards (SAUA) and must be booked in an eligible class, usually B or Y, provided the Business redemption seat is available, usually I class. On NZ, I inventory is rare at best.

AirNZ do participate in the *A upgrade - (need to be booked on H/B/Y).

Having to book in an expensive fare class makes these unwieldy.

Yes, but you can't go from Economy to Premium Economy.

Aha !

... still it's best mentioned, otherwise some may get an impression upgrades via *A are not available at all (not that I would generally recommend them).

Hi serfty - yes I was aware of the economy > business options, but was hoping for a premium economy option. Thanks for the input though :-)
