Continental joins Star Alliance

Just seen this on tripadvisor. It may give more options to NZ passengers on certain routes.

As usual, no update on NZ website yet. However, CO has appeared in the *A Upgrade drop down menu in Airpoints account.

Yup.. thre are a number of threads running discussing all the ins and outs... lots of questions being asked that presumably cannot be answered just yet!! "Will CO elites get E+ for free?" "How do I upgrade?"

I welcome it wholeheartedly... with some new "regular" destinations in the USA for me now travelling on CO has become much more likely.. In fact I did my first 2 flights with them 3 weeks ago..(3 weeks BEFORE I could credit the flights to NZ of course!!)

DAY-CLE-LAX.. the first in an E-Jet ( 145? I do like those..especially seat 3A) and the longer one in a 737-800... I checked in online - but well inside the 24 hour mark - and still managed to get an exit row.... I'll happily trade no recline for that legroom..

Was impressed from the start... admittedly DAY is quite a small airport - and IME those are the 'best" - the check in agent was friendly and helpful, as (OT) was the young TSA'er working on his own (I had a shotgun in my checked bag so there was more interaction required than normal). The GA's were proactive in getting gate check tags onto many of the larger rollaboards.. they went around the Gate area talking to folks and inviting them to get that sorted... I particularly liked that.

The aircraft were clean and as comfortable as one expects in Y... On CLE-LAX food was served at no charge....I didn't realise that so had a bite before the flight...

Am already booking with them for domestic flights next year...and am tempted to try the MNL-GUM-IAH route too....

Finally! Some decent *A domestic options out of NYC. At least, I hear CO is decent (by the meagre standards of US domestic airlines). I'm flying them in a few weeks, fingers crossed that they beat the feeble UA or US comparable offerings...

Up until two years ago, I was a loyal US flyer. But their service became so shabby, I jumped to CO. I think you will be very pleased...as I have been.

Good luck... But don't be surprised if you are disappointed, and don't expect them to keep track of your bags.

IMO, Continental are close to the worst airline there is, and I have flown on a few of the wilder the world has to offer! I have very rarely had a good experience flying with them and personally dislike them with a passion, so this perhaps taints my view...

I regularly connect from LAX to IAH, on a reasonably tight (but certainly not difficult) schedule, I do everything in my power to make sure my bag makes the flight, yet never, not once has my bag arrived in Houston on the same flight as me - which invariably means (if I am travelling further) it does not make it to my final destination of UIO. I now fly with Mexicana via MEX to UIO.

The unnerving thing when CO lose your bag is, they never have any idea where it is, it has always turned up, but they just do not know where it is... However, in the umpteen other times my bags have been waylaid, any other airline has been immediately able to tell me where it is and give an approximate time of arrival.
