Does every Alitalia flight count as a segment if operated by Alitalia?

Hey guys,

I want to go to Sao Paulo for the first weekend of May and sky scanner give the best price for a combination of Air France to Brazil and Alitalia on the return to Austria,
now my question is, at it is a very cheap flight i don't mind if I don't get any miles for the Alitalia segment, but will it be counted as a segment? respectively as the two segments?

Thanks for helping me to figure that out, because if yes, despite having read all the bad critics of Alitalia flights I might use that route more often as my significant other lives in Brazil

When a fare earns no miles, it doesn't count as a segment either.
If you look at the earning table on FB web site for AZ-operated flights:
- intercontinental flights : R is not listed in the table
- European flights : R is specifically listed as excluded

So I'm afraid you're screwed for the return part of your trip.

Additionally the first flight will only earn status miles with Flying Blue, not with another Skyteam FFP. (Since it is operated by a Star Alliance carrier).

As additional information please note that the same Alitalia booking class (like for eg O ) earn miles (and so it is a valid segment) for FB when it is given on European flight but not as internal flight in Italy.
R is the worst class for miles/segment because it does not count in any case.

Interesting. Paid TATL / long haul ticket and zero earnings, that's annoying. First time I see anything like that within Skyteam.

Unfortunately, there are actually many paid ticket booking classes which are now ineligible. It has been like that forever with some of the Asian partners and in the past 4-5 years have started to affect the other airlines as well, and of course more recently AF's own flights within Europe!

However, the Alitalia offer is, for example, LON-GIG-LON all in R for only GBP289, which is a bit of a bargain.
