Flying Blue Foize
A voip (Voice over IP telephony) company seems to have partnered up with Flying Blue. They offer:
- 1750 miles upon sign up
- 5 miles per euro spent
- About 3-4 miles per euro spent bonus, if you credit 25+ euro monthly
The idea is to register, pay through iDeal or paypal (hint: amex), and install their app on your smartphone. From then on you can use their app to call over wifi anywhere in the world.
The downside? Call rates. Sure it is a lot cheaper than when using you regular plan to call from abroad, however, many others, even Skype (considered to be one of the more expensive ones), have lower call rates.
I just signed up. Not sure if I need to credit any money to them (minimum: 10 euro) to get the 1.75K bonus. Anybody tried this?

The english website states that "Note: you will receive the 1.750 Award Miles inscription bonus as soon as you have paid or topped-up your call credit for an amount of at least € 50,00 in total."

Foize took Vocalis over; you already could use Vocalis as CPS in the Netherlands (10747). So you pay less then with KPN (except calling to mobile), can pay with Amex and you earn miles. Both me and our company use this with nice mileage results.
Nice to hear they offer VOIP also!

I'm using Fring and Skype these days, Fring being very cheap but having horrid sound quality to some destinations...and Skype offering good quality but at 3 times the price.
If the requirement is to topup with 50 euro, one could say:
- 1750 miles is worth ~17.50 euro
- That means ~35% discount
- As long as call rates are less than 35% higher than your regular VOIP trunk, you are making a profit from the offer.
A few destinations that I checked against the Skype and Fring rates, just FYI:
NL Stable - Foize: 0.03, Skype: 0.022, Fring: 0.012
NL Mobile - Foize: 0.08, Skype: 0.255, Fring: 0.084
FR Stable - Foize: 0.04, Skype: 0.022, Fring: 0.006
FR Mobile - Foize: 0.24, Skype: 0.194, Fring: 0.037
UK Stable - Foize: 0.03, Skype: 0.022, Fring: 0.007
UK Mobile - Foize: 0.26, Skype: 0.240, Fring: 0.056
Cheapest ones in bold. Notice that Foize is actually the cheapest for calling NL Mobile, at 8 cents a minute (incl. VAT). So for anybody using VOIP to call NL mobile, this could be a great offer

What are your impressions in regards to sounds quality, dropped calls and so on?

But we don't have experience with VOIP, and that was your question.

Foize
Doesn't seem like a very slick service, regardless of the prices.
Both times I requested the verification code to my phone, it arrived but was invalid. So haven't been able to register my mobile.
The installation instructions link always returns a 404 error.
I'm reluctant to credit 50 EURO if just registering is so painful!
