Peter Hartman confirmed during the IATA summit in Beijing that AFKLM is discussing an 'extensive joint venture' with Etihad Airways. There won't be a share of EY in AFKLM, says the CEO.
He also added: 'We should stop talking about the Gulf carriers being financed by their government or not, it isn't relevant any more.' and 'It is good to have enemies close by sometimes instead of friends.'

Meanwhile, IAG (BA and IB) continues to flirt with Qatar Airways - though the sale of Bankia's 12% holding in IAG may muddy the waters a bit. However, BA seems keen to forge links with Qatar, and who knows, Qatar may even become the first Gulf carrier to join an alliance - oneworld.
Qantas is also said to be desperate to partner with Emirates.

Air France-KLM in talks with Etihad Airways
The Franco-Dutch airline Air France-KLM is having "serious" talks with the national airline of United Arab Emirates Etihad Airways to form a joint venture, said on Tuesday KLM.
"These are serious discussions to determine how best the two companies can work together. What is being discussed right now, it is a joint venture," said Joost Ruentol, a spokesman of the KLM airline, Dutch arm of Air France-KLM.
"An entry of Etihad into the capital of Air France-KLM, as was announced in the media lately, is not in the agenda," added Mr. Ruentol.
Air France-KLM had recently repeatedly stated its desire to form a commercial and non-capital alliance with Etihad Airways.
"If you can not beat them, you must join them," said the executive director of KLM, Peter Hartman, quoted Tuesday by the online Dutch financial daily Het Financieele Dagblad.
The Franco-Dutch airline is looking for a way to compete with Emirates and get the benefits enjoyed by the Arab airlines for the purchase of fuel, the newspaper said.
The Dutch tabloid De Telegraaf had said June 6 thatcEtihad Airways was interested in acquiring a stake in Air France-KLM and is discussing this with the Franco-Dutch company.
Etihad recently increased the number of acquisitions, taking its controlling interest in Air Berlin at nearly 30% and buying nearly 3% of Aer Lingus. It also increased to 4.99% the stake in Virgin Australia, to eventually own 10% of the company.

Hartman told Luchtvaartnieuws.nl that Ethiad has "no choice", it must form a JV because it is being squeezed by Emirates and Qatar.

Only LH among the Big European Three seems so far not desiring any link with Gulf carriers, let's see for how long they will maintain their attitude.
(note to WW: start taking some shares in AB, or those cunny French will eat your lunch once again)

Aaargh, cries of woe from me this is all terrible news
I have tried to get as far away from the dreaded excuse for an airline called AF and that favela with a runway aka Roissy CDG since 2010 and thought I had nicely managed it by moving to Creberland and adopting GVA as my home airport and anything-other-than-airfrance as my carrier of choice. And EK and EY are firm favourites now, as especially is Dubai for me when headed East. And give me the orange peril anyday over airfrance. At least they have crew that smile, no matter the adversity, and reliability and punctuality are now on a par if not better than AF
And now this? Is no-one safe from the clutches and the claws of this dreadful airline? Whereby BA have the motto something like "We fly to serve " ( and that's the biggest load of old tosh, they should be had up for misrepresentation) it would seem that AF have adopted the motto "There is no place to hide". I am not sure which is worse, but leave EK and EY alone. They do an great job and do not need big brother interference or indeed any help along the way from an incompetent such as AF
