Programme update: Roll over of Level Miles above level threshold for Elite members

Starting from this year, every Level Mile earned above the level threshold will be saved and automatically transferred to the Level Miles balance of the following year.

The Level Miles balance will not go back to zero at the start of each new year; with this new feature, our customers will keep their current status or be upgraded more easily.
The additional Level Miles earned in 2011 will automatically appear on the Miles account as from mid-2012, and new upgrades will happen after that date.

New rollover miles rule

Just read this on the Facebook page dedicated to the end of qualifying miles with Amex branded cards in France:

Starting 2011, miles earned in excess of acquired status will rollover to the following year:

Example: if you qualify for Gold with 45K qualifying miles: the following year you will be credited with 5K qualifying miles (=45K-40K)

I wonder how this will work in the end.

What about passengers that earned more than 230K (= 2 X 115K) in a year (in which case the miles in excess would have rolled over to year+2). Will they keep doing this?

I earned 250K qualifying miles last year. I wonder how this will work out for me. Should I assume that 250K-70K=180K miles will rollover to 2012 (instead of the current 135K=250K-115K). Then will 180K-70K=110K rollover to 2013 and then 110K-70K=40K to 2014 ?

Pretty much the same as the DL system I presume?

This forum will then also see questions "To roll-over or not".:p

Effect is that there will be no soft-landing any more.

Ad Fred, I believe with this new system there all miles above the threshold will roll over. So as a Platinum member all miles above 70/90K will roll over.

Edit: FB has confirmed that soft-landings will still be available.

Not sure if that has already been posted, but now a dedicated "Platinum For Life" has been created for such members :

That is a choice Delta has made. Terminating soft-landings isn't a necessary element for FB.

Two great improvements. If they had had the roll-over system last year, I probably would have flown more with AFKL and would not have renewed my *A Gold status. So for me this roll-over concept is an incentive.

(This roll-over concept raises the question: what is the smallest numer of segments to get Plat for Life with? My guess is 34.)

I assume this only applies to level miles and not sectors? i.e. I assume excess 'sectors' will not roll over?

And does it mean that soft landings will also be lost for those that qualify by level sectors?

DELTAnization?:p

I can ask, but already know the answer I think....

but this only counts for Level Miles right? No segments?

:p

Looking at my "Milage summary" on klm.com I see that it lists both Carried over miles and Carried over flights so perhaps we will be able to carry flights?

Will these just be carried for one year, or will they accumulate over several years? e.g. say one makes 6 level flights a year, would one reach Silver in year 3, and then carry 3 flights into year 4?
