Fascinating and terrifying indeed for someone who had no idea about these instruments.

Frightening that the guys in the cockpit seemed to have no idea either and tried randomly all kinds of maneuvers to solve the problem.

A very interesting perspective from an AF Airbus pilot : http://www.pnc-contact.com/2015/01/2...n-pilote-29131

Too bad it is in French only.

The fight in court is going on :
- Air France (charged) asks the court to dismiss the second opinion granted to Airbus in 2014 which underlined the responsibility of AF pilots in the tragedy
- Airbus (charged as well) is against but at the same time agrees the get a third opinion
- Families of victims ask the court to order further inquiries because they fear nolle prosequi

Today's decision from the court : the second opinion (which did favor Airbus) is taken off the investigation.

Almost 12 years later .... Just in from AFP/Le Parisien:

Paris court clears aviation giants over disaster that killed 228 people flying from Rio de Janeiro to Paris

A Paris court has cleared Air France and Airbus of involuntary manslaughter over the crash of flight 447 in 2009 that killed 228 people.

Giving its verdict on Monday, the court said if there had been faults committed, “no certain causal link” with the accident could be shown.

The Airbus A330 was travelling from Rio de Janeiro to Paris when it crashed into the Atlantic Ocean during a thunderstorm. Lawyers for passengers’ families had battled for years to address what they said were failings leading to the worst aviation disaster in Air France’s history.

The ruling followed a two-month trial last year, at the end of which the public prosecutors’ office had suggested it was impossible to prove that either company was to blame and suggested they be cleared.
