Currently on AF69 (LAX-CDG) with my partner on 09APR in paid J and really prefer sitting in the front section of J and was wondering if anyone knows what the policy is on AF with blocking the middle seat? I'm going to assume they don't book the middle seat unless it's filled up? Can i request they block the middle seat?

What AF does not do:
At time of reservation, block middle seats at the request of customers
Unlike other airlines, automatically block middle seats for highest level status pax
What AF may do (I've seen it working one out of 80 times, and even with a leg in a cast where really I needed the extra space they didn't do out):
At check-in, "take note" of your request to have the middle seat blocked. The individual CKI agent may actually do it, which however won't prevent another one to overwrite it.
If you ask politely at check in or in the lounge, they usually try and do it, I've had the middle seat blocked quite often. But I was flying economy. And by myself.
In business I am not sure they would want to do this although it's not a big deal, they just unblock the seat if they need it.
Well, you certainly shouldn't hope for a blocked seat if there are AF personnel, family or friends of family flying ... on a recent flight from SFO there were at least FIVE "upgrades" performed after the doors closed, all of them AF personnel/family, including someone belonging to the pilot's family (saw the name on the carry-on luggage tag) and two teenage kids who subsequently blocked the aisles with their overflowing Abercrombie & Fitch shopping bags. This was on an A340, so no middle seat issue, but as long as here are AF people/family on board, don't count on that seat next to you remaining empty.

The family/friends upgrade procedure on AF-KL made me stop flying them on longhaul already and now with the reductions to the FB programme I will also start to reduce my flights on shorthaul with them and I have long stopped flying in any premium cabins with them. Their longhaul premium cabins are awful and their shorthaul premium cabins have little difference from the Y cabin!
